Battle Block Theater - April 3rd - XBLA only

Post by fastbilly1 »

So they finally dated a game that has been "complete" since 2009. Thats right boys and girls, game three from The Behemoth is coming soon. Sadly it is XBLA only right now but itll be out and that is the important part.

Who else is excited? Its the PDA minigame from Alien Hominid as a full title, with more things to do in it. Its gonna be AWESOME.

:? I could have swore that this was going to be multi platform. Oh well I guess in about 2 or 3 years it'll come to psn and PC just like Castle Crashers.

Destructoid already has a review up for the game. I haven't been able to read it yet but they gave it a 9.

Rumor is next year for PSN/PC. Gogo timed exclusives. Destructoid said it was great fun

But I'll have thrown my Ps3 in the trash by then and only be playing on the ps4.

Is it weird that I couldn't care less about this one? There was a time that Behemoth's stuff had me really excited. Now: not so much.

I urge everyone to give the demo a go. It lets you play about 6 stages. And watch the opening cutscene.

Last night I pulled my 360 out of its trusty cardboard box house (since it is really just a Halo box in my area), and after about an hour of fighting with system updates and GFWL/XBLA login credentials well I finally got in only to discover that I had no points left and not enough on giftcards/paypal to get them for free. So I just grabbed the demo (which is the full game and strapped down to just the demostages so about 1.6gigs) and waited for the wife to come home to play it. I figured we would just play the demo and then when I get enough points on paypal (which should be next week), we can buy the game. Well after dinner we fired it up and watched the opening video. Half way through it she said to just buy the full game and we will both skip lunch for the rest of the week.

I decided to play the demo through just to see how it is first. The plot is silly and ludicrous, but the way it is told is just clever and makes you smile. It is as if they just wanted people to smile and laugh the entire way through. So I broke out two of my old lan party network cables and ran it 175 feet through the hallways and up a flight of steps to our living room/library which is our makeshift den so we could unlock the full game. Five hours later I had completed the first two worlds with my wife just watching, pointing out teleports I missed, and laughing at my deaths. Tonight (hopefully) we will replay them all in coop - which is a different game completely.

It is the PDA game from Alien Hominid, which I often called TV head game, in a bigger form. It even has that same rocking jungle beat on some stages. While I hate to buy games at full price, this game is awesome. For those who have played TV head game there are some big changes:
1. Scrolling stages
2. Checkpoints - no more life system
3. You can move things back and forth - no more rocks getting stuck in a corner and having to restart the stage.
4. Multiple enemy types, some npcs, and some just fluff animated characters - like birds and Peanuts styled ghosts
5. Offensive capabilities - currently I throw a hadoken like fireball.
6. Narrator - which some people will think is hilarious, while other will find him grating. Ill admit that when he starts yelling lines like "OH MY GOODNESS" or "Do that better and dont die" it is alittle grating over time. But every stage has a yarnball which is used to unlock new weapons from your cat overlords, and the first few times you get one he is very excited, but over time he starts saying things like "So you got a yarnball, thats great" in a very defeated voice.

For those who have not played TV head game, this is a comedy platformer with strong air controls. You will die alot, be it to Prince of Persia styled spikes, Giant Rapid Tanooki looking things, or simply just your partner throwing you into the dreaded water. But you will also laugh alot and have a good time.

My Wife and I played the first two sets of stages in coop and the maps were different, but not completely different like I was told. The game is much better in coop, except the timed stages. Those are a pain in the ass in coop.
