Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one? I just got a new dreamcast (well not new, but new to me) and I have to reset teh time and date everytime. so with all that said I need some links.

Sega says...

The rechargeable battery in Dreamcast isn't a user-serviceable part. To have the battery replaced, follow the directions for repairs before sending or bringing Dreamcast to an authorized Sega repair center.

I had no idea... You can't do it yourself?

Is SEGA continuing to provide this service even in the current year? Is it not a bit worrying that they might cease this service? I don't know what the internal memory of the DC is used for, but even then I know with the Saturn how annoying it is to always have to set the time.

You need to leave your dreamcast on for a while. Just leave it at the bios screen. Make sure it has good airflow, and leave it on like 6 hours to fully charge the battery inside. Saturn's battery does not recharge, but DC's does. Basically, play the damn system.

Really? oh well then. I was getting ready to do a 2"AAA"/"AA" Battery mod. Thanks for teh tip.

Just simply having the dreamcast on will charge it. I didn't mean only the BIOS would do it. If it's not charging, then you have an electrical leak somewhere in the system, or something fried the battery. I mean, if the battery was dying, (which isn't likely, because those specific batteries are supposed to last at least a decade), then you would at least have a tiny bit of juice in it after charging; enough so that the next few times you power on, it would still hold the date.

If it's absolutely not holding the date at all, check the battery itself and make sure the connections are fine. Replacing one of those things is tough because the batteries are not as common as the CR2032 ones in the VMUs and Saturns. They're also more expensive. Plus, solder does not like to stick against those batteries, so mounting a new one will be a major issue, unless you have the clamping tool.
