Re: Finally caved...
I think there's a lot of the "what should I get on PS3" threads floating around. Take a look for some of them. Also, Uncharted (1-3).
Re: Finally caved...
Demon's Souls is a must have if you like action rpg's.
Heavy Rain isn't a very action oriented game it's mostly qte's but is an amazing game that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I would have more but it's late and I'm tired but those are two must haves in my book.

Being that you only payed $100 for it, I'm assuming you got a used one. What model did you get? Perhaps the first thing you buy for it shouldn't be a game, but a hard drive. My first PS3 was a 40GB model, and I the time I figured that was enough and if I ever needed to upgrade the drive it'd be no big deal. Well, it isn't THAT big of a deal, but it's a lot easier if you don't have to backup your saves and whatnot. So if you have a small drive (like a 40 or 60GB, maybe even an 80GB) then I would recommend upgrading to something larger now rather then later.
Cronozilla is right, there's a ton of PS3 game recommendation threads already. I've typed my same response in a lot of them. The short of what I say is this: Little Big Planet is awesome, and has been my favorite game on the console. I'm still enjoying it so much that I haven't bothered to pick up the second one yet (though I really want to). The other thing I bring up is Bioshock. I kinda got sick of FPS for a while, being as how the genre kinda blew up this generation, but I really enjoyed Bioshock. It's a FPS but with a kind of survival/horror atmosphere, and you gain abilities like telekinesis and being able to shoot fire, ice and electricity from your hand.
There's lots of great stuff on PSN, so you can pick up a lot of fun games for cheap. I really like Scott Pilgrim, a retro style beat-em-up with some RPG elements.

It's a nice time to have a Ps3, as a lot of the really well received titles from earlier in its life are very cheap now.

I'd say prioritize the exclusives for your collection, followed by console exclusives. Most stuff that is on PS3, 360, and PC usually has the worst version on PS3.

Buy PlayStation Plus membership. Enjoy free games and buy PSN games at a discount.
That's my advice.

If only you'd caved and made a meaningful thread title. *sigh*
