Best Mario Kart game!! (Poll)
Which Mario Kart is the best, or your favorite? Mine is the Wii one or the 3ds one. Wii because I can play it with my family and friends, and 3DS because portability and online (I know the Wii one has online). I'm planning to get the GBA or SNES versions, maybe both. That might change my answer.

Double Dash easily. Had great sense of speed and fantastic co-op. It was fun sitting there with a buddy trying to unlock everything together. Every character had a special power up that was unique to them for added variety. You'd have to find the best combo of characters and karts so it was fun experimenting. It's a shame that some mechanics like that never carried over to the newer titles. Now it's garbage luck and punishing rubber banding difficulty.
Let me go from 1st to 5th within 100 feet from the finish due to a combination of a blue spike shell, lightning bolt and some prick with a bullet bill within a matter of seconds.

N64 all the way. Loved it back in the day, loved it in college, so much fun with 4 player battles etc.. Honestly you can't go wrong with any Mario Kart.
Need Hexyz Force and Class of Heroes 2 for a complete PSP RPG Set.....let me know your price!!!!

They all play the same for the most part.
I like the 64 version the most, but I'm not sure if it's just because it's the only one I ever owned.
The Wii one was good too, and online which is a big bonus. DS and the 3DS ones are good for similar reasons.
Double Dash was cool, but I don't remember too much of it.
The SNES Mario Kart is probably the worst of them though, not including the GBA version since that one is just bad.
I wonder how the arcade version of Mario Kart plays?

I'd have to go with Double Dash as well. I have the most fond memories of playing it with friends in high school.
The co-op was the selling point for me, and I'd agree, the speed did feel perfect. Mario Kart 64 was never my particular fort-ay, and the SNES one is undeniably clunky, though it has a special place in my heart.

Blasphemy! Super Circuit is about as solid as Mario Kart can be with 2D graphics, and it builds on a lot of elements that were introduced in Mario Kart 64. It's my second favorite after Double Dash. Also, without Super Mario Kart, there would be no Mario Kart. Just because it doesn't have the extras added in later games doesn't mean it's a bad game. Online play notwithstanding, Mario Kart Wii seems like a step backward from Double Dash in a lot of ways. I haven't played the DS or 3DS versions.

Which isn't saying much. I dont see why anyone would play the GBA version over the others.Duane Dibbley wrote:Violent By Design wrote:The SNES Mario Kart is probably the worst of them though, not including the GBA version since that one is just bad.

Considering it is a sequel to Mario Kart 64, I would certainly hope so.and it builds on a lot of elements that were introduced in Mario Kart 64.
Yes...it is the first game, generally speaking that is how it works. Also, without Super Mario Kart, there would be no Mario Kart.
Correct, however I said it is the worst of them, I did not call it a bad game.Just because it doesn't have the extras added in later games doesn't mean it's a bad game.

While adding in the Wii-Mote driving and steering wheel to Mario Kart Wii seemed like a logical direction to take, I think it suffered a bit because of it. The few times I attempted to play it, I could never quite get a feel for it. Always ended up driving into walls.

Re: Best Mario Kart game!! (Poll)
In my opinion Mario Kart games need to be looked at from two directions:
1. Racing
2. Battle
Some games do one great and the other very poorly, while few do both well. So to continue with that thought, and giving the first a bye since it was the first and no mark on 7 since Ive only played it twice:
- Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart DS both had excellent racing and excellent battle modes.
- Double Dash and Wii had excellent racing but poor battle.
- Super Circuit had Good racing and poor battle.
- GP1 had ok racing
- GP2 has better racing then GP1 but still a far cry form the others.
Mario Kart 64 is my favorite, but if I can ever get a functioning DS emulator that allows for LAN play, DS may take its spot. But Double Dash is a whole hoot of fun with 8 people in the same room playing on a LAN (and one of the reason why I own multiple Cubes with BBAs).
The GP games really need more weapons per race and more complicated tracks.

I guess it's fortunate that it also supported the GCN and Classic Controllers.
Double Dash is my favourite, but I slightly side with its critics in regard to the cull on content it had. 16 courses seems a bit lacking, I guess, but considering the quality of the DD tracks, I don't feel ripped-off. Wanting more of a good game is about as decent as complaints get.
I'm also a fan of Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2, which're based off the Double-Dash engine. Which in a case of powerful irony, is an arcade game with a less punishing AI than its console counterparts.
