Kingdom Gran Prix...confusing me

I figured this game would be difficult to get into but I do the slightest adjustment and things get mess up. I dunno what I did but some how I inverted my controls so up and down are left and right and left and right are up and down. Arcade mode is Tate'd so it seems I can only play in Saturn mode.

Oh and then there's the actual game I have no clue what I'm doing how to get ahead of somebody or even what the whole point is.

If anybody can fill me in....

You set your controls to horizontal mode. It's a relatively common option in verts with tate mode. Basically lets you play the vertical game in a horizontal perspective, which I can't for the life of me do.

To move faster in the race you have to be in the top section of the screen. Hanging around the bottom of the screen will pretty much not take you anywhere in the racing aspect of the game.

Are you familiar with the Mahou Daisakusen series? If so, play the saturn mode without the racing aspect. Save that for later.

I don't recall the TATE, i'd have to pop it in - but most (all?) SAT shmups you have to select the TATE mode, it isn't default. I could be wrong on this one - not 100%.

As for your controls - are they still wacky if you turn off the system and unplug the controllers? If so, take out your save battery and try. That doesn't make sense other than you accidentally picked a wrong option somewhere - so just do a hard reset.

LOL! I thought the exact same thing when I got the game. It's completely different than any other game with its combined shmup and racing mechanics. Sadly I can't give you any tips because I only spent maybe 15 mins with it before moving onto Thunder Force V which I won in the same auction with Kingdom GP.

I erased my save file and yes that did fix it.

But just playing the game I'm confused.

I am sort of familiar with Mahou Daisakusen in that I've played Dimahoo. That's about it.

What is the difference between Arcade and Saturn mode? Arcade when I pick it is Tate'd no matter what options I have it set to.

The saturn mode simply removes the racing aspect of the game and allows you to play it like a normal shmup.

Ah ok.

Yeah when I first played it for some reason it was in Tate mode when I chose Arcade.

Ok I think I figured it out.

Tate Mode and Yoko Mode refer not to the screen but how the game controls. Saturn Mode is the screen setting optimized for the Saturn and Arcade mode is the Tate Mode Proper.

Shooting Mode and Racing Mode are unlocked by Highlighting Sound and pressing Left Right Left Right Up Down Up down and then start. It appears under Exit.

and winning the races seem to involve using one of your bombs at the start of the race and not dying.
