Is it still worth getting a DSI XL?

Post by ATARI800XLfan »

I now have the money and am thinking of getting the DSI XL, I already own a advance SP-101, have never owned a DS and it has more games that I am interested in then the 3DS at the moment(I always seem to be one generations behind when it comes to hand helds) my question is, is it still worth getting one?
found a game store that sells used ones for around 89 dollars, plus there used DS games are not a bad price, is that a decent price, prefer to see equipment in real life when it comes to handhelds. or would my money be better spent on a 80 dollar self winding mechanical watch.

I understand that you maybe not have much money to play with but I think you should get yourself the 3DS XL instead. You have backwards compatibility and the opportunity to play 3DS games in the future when the "4DS" comes out without the need to buy another system if your "generation behind" pattern holds.

But, if that isn't an option, the price is good. Gamestop sells it for $109 so $89 is a nice deal. Just look at the screen for any issues though. Games are cheap not including most of the first party titles and it is my most favored system. If you need recommendations on games let me know.

The Nintendo DS is one of my favorite systems of all time, and I have sunk countless hours into its library. Also, if you do not insist on acquiring complete games for it - like I, unfortunately, do - you can pick up a lot of really good games for really cheap.

I have a DS Lite so that I can play GBA games on it too, but if I were going to get another one - and I might because my DS Lite is on the frtiz - I would get a DSi XL.

While the DSi XL is a nice system I'd say saving for the 3DS (XL) would be the better option since you can still play the DS library and you'll be primed for when there are more titles you like on the 3DS.

$89 is a decent deal though so if you're not worried about spending again down the road I say go for it. But test that touch screen out before buying it.

I have seen brand new DSi XLs on clearance for that (Target, offhand), so if you're intent on getting one you might look around a bit first.

A 3DS XL would probably be a better purchase in the long run. Best Buy had the Mario Kart bundle version on sale for $160 a week or two ago. Best right now, I think, is Toys R Us selling them for $180, but the point is more that you can find deals on 'em.

I'm very happy with my decision to upgrade to a DSi XL earlier this year. I love that thing and if you don't have a DS, it's totally worth getting.

However, the 3DS XL I'd recommend strongly considering. It's more expensive, but the fact that it's backwards compatible and will continue to have new games coming out for years to come make it a potential better choice.

But regardless, some kind of XL DS is a good idea.

Okay, thanks for the responses, guys. sounds like either way is a good option, what games would you recommend, I am into platforming, rpg's, racing, strategy and creative, basically anything not shooters. Also love Sega branded/published games. As with either option I will be getting some DS games. Place that has it is called disc replay. or is there a thread already here of best DS games.

If that's the case you might be interested in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, as it's a sonic RPG. I don't know if you have a thing for or against music games, but you really should check out Elite Beat Agents. It's super cheap, fun, and provides some laughs.

While on the topic of music games: LEGO Rock Band and Rock Band 3 play very much like Rock Band Unplugged on the PSP (that is, kind of like Amplitude on the PS2). I really like them, but it's not as easy of a recommendation as Elite Beat Agents unless you particularly like rhythm.

The DS version of Chrono Trigger is pretty good.

I hear fantastic things about The World Ends With You, but I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet.

Enjoy!

I'll piggyback on this thread with my question. The best i've seen is new DSi XLs at Wal-mart for $129.99. This is one of the few consoles I still need to pick up (I have a regular 3DS). Is there any better deal out there?
