So there's an app for Android (and that other smartphone OS) called Vocre which apparently real-time translates speech for you and displays it as text. Which made me wonder... perhaps this could help us import some games that we couldn't play otherwise. Obviously oder RPG's etc that are all text based are no good, but things with voice acting in them -- maybe you could set up your phone right next to the TV/monitor speaker and use the app to translate while you're playing. Thoughts?

$2.99 on Google Play Store, btw.
Vocre translation app could maybe help us import games (?)

I've actually played a couple untranslated games with a program called texthook or something similar that "took" the text and could be configurated to translate them via google or any other online translator for a surprisingly decent result.

I'm a little confused here. Do you mean PC games so you were able to copy/paste into the program?General_Norris wrote:I've actually played a couple untranslated games with a program called texthook or something similar that "took" the text and could be configurated to translate them via google or any other online translator for a surprisingly decent result.
I'm talking more about using this for console games.

Yes, it took the text from the program itself and ran it on a translator so you could play normally by looking at the small translation screen of the program.noiseredux wrote:I'm a little confused here. Do you mean PC games so you were able to copy/paste into the program?

But yes, PC-only I guess.

Wow, this actually looks pretty useful! Looks like it actually supports Japanese, too, so it can actually be useful to us gamers!

It could make Sakura Wars *mostly* playable.

^omg hadn't thought of that! We need to test this out!
Re: Vocre translation app could maybe help us import games (
Japanese can be very difficult to translate to English as there are sometimes dozens of meanings for the same word and the sentence structure is completely different. As a result most translation tools at very best provide a loose translation, and at worst a translation that is entirely wrong or makes no sense. So I'm a little wary of this, but I might try it out to see how accurate it is. If it was free I would do it right away.

Wonder if this is on iOS as well. Could be very useful for newer RPGs that haven't made it across the Pacific.
But the translations would be very broken. As Brunoaf just posted before I could get my post in, translating Japanese is a challenge. Certainly not as easy as translating from Spanish, Italian, German, etc.

Even though the translation from Japanese will be loose, it could make it alot more fun. Its a tense dramatic moment and the main character says something like "I like Pie."
