Racketboy 2012 Hoiliday Charity Auction, Poll

Racketeers,

I have high hopes as well as high goals for our annual auction. In order to see if these goals are attainable, I would appreciate your input on how, and if, you plan on participating this year. Please take a second to vote on this poll so I can better gauge what activity I can expect.

If you'd like, feel free to pm me with specifics (items plan on donating/items you'd like to see for purchase) as November will be here before you know it. Additionally, use this thread to suggest charities. My suggestions so far are The Wounded Warrior Project, Make a Wish Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.

Keep in mind this auction is a perfect way to show your appreciation to Racketboy for creating this incredible community and at the same time displaying the class of our members.

I will most likely be donating items. And most likely purchasing items. But I couldn't choose both in the poll.

I've said it previously, but as I feel our hobby has a lot to do with hanging on to our childhoods, I always feel it appropriate to donate to a charity that benefits children who are having difficult childhoods.

Of course I'm happy to think we're benefiting anybody.

I'd love a vet related charity but that might be too political a choice and it'd suck if some people here didn't feel they could participate to their fullest because they didn't agree with the cause.

I think Noise is right: A children's charity would be a good call. But not Child's Play. That charity is plenty funded already.

I had a similar thought, but couldn't see why anyone on this board would be against helping a wounded or fallen soldier.

I'm always up for donating to the Make A Wish foundation. They are an incredible charity working for an incredible cause. Another option would be donating to research on Autism.
Rest assured, the charity we do donate to will be researched to make sure our donation is allocated effectively.

True but I know there are a few people on this board who have their reasons for not being fond of the military and it wouldn't be fair to put them in a position where they would either have to make an objection or not participate. Kids are a good and neutral cause.

FWIW, we've done Make-A-Wish.

I've always lobbied for some small, local charity and will continue to do so (even if to no avail!). I think our donation would be a small drop in a very large bucket for these large charities, but a donation to a worthwhile local community charity would be much more appreciated and worthwhile and we might get to see some of the direct impact.

That would be great. I've pondered on Racketboy sponsoring a child but $2,000 would only go so far. I'll check into local charities as well as I like the idea of putting a larger drop in a smaller bucket.
