The Petz games are ideal for kids. Infact look for anything with a Ubisoft logo. They do everything made for this market. Generally the games are decent and they can often be reduced because a lot of people buy them (well in Australia at least). You can't go wrong with these games, Ubisoft's range goes from animals (dogs, cats etc.) to fashion design etc. So just find out their interests and match it up with a game.
I personally would suggest Drawn to Life as its a unique little game.
