Woohoo! Been at PlayExpo 2012 this weekend and managed to come away with a Japanese Xbox 360 for a very good price! Now, what title to look for first...

Congrats man.. Might be the best Shmup console period.. Other than maybe a PC Engine..

Thanks! Yeah I'm pretty excited about it- specially having just spent 2 days playing arcade versions of Espagluda, Dodonpachi daifukkatsu and others! And realising how uncompetative on them I am ( though I did a lot better on Espagluda than Dodonpachi)

Am I the only one who prefers the Genesis shmup catalog to the PC Engine's?

That's been on my wants list for a loooooong time!
Ketsui looks pretty good. I had a great experience playing Espgaluda at PlayExpo and would like to get that game - but it's multi-region so kinda wasted on the Japanese machine! (LOL if you know what I mean...!)

I prefer the Genesis/MD until you throw in the PC Engine CD games, then it blows the Genesis out of the water. Though that's not to say it doesn't have an awesome library because it does.

True, but if we're talking PC Engine CD, we need to talk Sega CD also, right? There's not that much to talk about, but there's Silpheed, Robo Aleste, Android Assault and Keioh. PCE CD has a better version of Lords of Thunder, Gates of Thunder, Saphire and Spriggan (unless I'm forgetting anything else major (shouldn't Breetai be in here by now?)). At that point I think it's fairly even, personally. I tend to prefer the shmups on the genesis anyway, though, if only for keeping an aspect ratio close to the arcade's, in yoko, for verts.

A new development in the Jp Xbox 360 saga...
Sadly, I could never get the console to work, not even fire up. Upon return to the retailer and his examination, it was discovered to be "dead".
There had been some exterior damage to the console and it now looks like that was just the tip of the icebereg.
But, every cloud has a silver lining, and I was offered a full refund! Instead of that option, I've asked for a fully region and display modded (switchless) MD1 console and the remainder of outstanding outlay as refund.
I've always wanted a fully modded MD1 so this seemed like a good opportunity to get my hands on one! Naturally I have just purchased Hellfire off ebay, but I am now searching around for the best lists of shmups and unmissable games for this classic console! I probably had most of the shooters "back in the day" but I am sure a few got through the net!
