Chuck Rock - Bonk Ripoff?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Chuck Rock - Bonk Ripoff?

Post by racketboy »

Just saw some Chuck Rock games listed in some auctions in another thread...

Is that series a total ripoff of the Bonk series, or is the whole caveman them just very similar?

The 16-bit era was ripe with caveman related platformers, it was something of a fad that may or may not of been inspired by the Bonk series. Here are the ones I remember:

Prehistoric Man
Chuck Rock
Chuck Rock 2: Son of Chuck
Cave Man Games
Joe & mac Caveman Ninjas
Bignose the Caveman
BC Racers (a spin off to Chuck Rock)

Chuck Rock was developed by Core and released ion a whole ton of systems in the UK. I particularly remember owning the Amiga version and still own the Mega CD one, which has a great opening animation. Most of the games I listed have a lot in common, to be honest.

Psshh if you are going to say that Chuck Rock is a Bonk rip off all caveman related games are a rip off of B.C.'s Quest for Tires.

Chuck Rock has very different mechanics and looks like it was probably programmed by a European team, and the Europeans didn't get good access to Bonk until emulation became popular.
