Sega saturn hookup question?
So pretty soon I might be getting another hdtv that does not support s-video which piises me off to no end cause for older systems s-video is easy, convient, cheap and looks great so my question is besides doing expensive scart converter.
Can I get a s-video to vga cord perhaps and use it on the saturn? would that work? Im just looking for a cheap alternative to having to use composite

This might work for you, but it isn't a cheap fix. (And is discontinued.)
I think getting a Saturn SCART cable and a SCART to HDMI converter is your best bet.
So do they no longer make TVs with S-video support? Pretty lame if that's the case.

A lot of TVs I've seen have dropped everything but HDMI even. Which is fine if you go through an AV processor like me, but terrible if you don't have the cash to fork over for one.
Older. Not wiser.

well before i had a 55inch lce which had everything! 2 hdmi ports, Vga, S-video, compone, composit you name it but ya im getting a led which does on a nice note have hdmi, vga componet and composit still but they have been getting rid of s-video period on new hdtv's which suck for people like me who love playing older systems.
Another annoying thing is if they have vga and componet/composit those are analog signals anyways so why not have s-video!?!? I'd rather have s-video then composit

no such thing. You would have to get some sort of svideo to vga convertor box. At that point you should just do it right and get a saturn SCART cable and SCART to component(or hdmi) convertor.
I know you probably see some cables out there that are svideo on one end and VGA on the other, but those are specifically for connecting video cards that support TV out over the VGA port. You can't run the other direction.

In this day and age where high definition is the standard, there's no point in having s-video or even composite. That's why you keep the old tube around

For some crazy reason Microsoft still packs composite cables into the box with the 360.
Re: Sega saturn hookup question?
There are still some HDTVs that ship with S-Video. Just bought a new Philips (made by Funai) from Costco for the living room and it has S-Video, though using it shuts off the composite video. Seems the composite and S-Video are tied through the same circuitry. Only one analog video input, basically.

What's crazier is mine came packed with both composite and component seven years ago.
