H guys check out this interview with the creator of shenmue filed at the start of this year he' seems very passionet about finishing the saga and I think this could happen with sega publishing it. This really gives me alot of hope. I think shenmue 1 and 2 were perfect showcases on how amazing the dreamcast is and were not only amazing games but an important part of gaming history and helped define the games of current era.

Not trying to burst your bubble but, I really doubt that Shenmue 3 will ever come out. Old Sega is dead. :(

Yu has always been passionate about telling the story that doesn't mean it is on its way. Besides he doesn't have the rights to Shenmue so no matter how much he wants to do it he can't until Sega says it is ok.

The creator of Shenmue wanting to continue the story is like the creator of MML3 still wanting to make MML3. Makes no difference at all, sadly.

I dissagree entirely. Sega is not dead they took a long break maby but there coming back big time with game's like sonic generations and Pso 2. Besides as long as the original diretor is working on it which he will it does not matter who works at sega.

They know there fans of dieing for shenmue 3 and they have enough money to do it. I think they will realize that there is a ton of money to be mad bringing back shenmue and not only will the loyal fans buy it but it could bring in a whole new generation of gamers on new counsels.

They just need shenmue 1,2 rerelease xbox live/psn

This story needs to be finished and it was a historical game there is no way in hell it wont get done. There is way to much they can do with this. It will just take some time. Alot of people said sega would never make Pso2 and yet here it is....

I know alot of you say old sega is dead but you can't say there not coming back there has been some great games made and coming out honestly sonic generations was as good as anything i have ever loved by sega so they gotta be doing something right

Even when New Sega is good, they're still New Sega, not Old Sega. Old Sega is perma-dead, and we just have to accept that.

There is a group dedicated to trying to get Sega to give Yu the Shenmue license, but that really wouldn't allow him to make a massive-budget game like Shenmue was. If he really wants to finish the story, there are multiple ways he can go about doing it, but I sincerely doubt the current Sega corporation is going to dump buckets of money into a new Shenmue game.

The Shenmue development process was so expensive because it involved creating the engine for what the game world needed. Suzuki said in an interview recently that today all of those little details would be much easier to program. Today he could simply sign up for a middleware engine and finish the series out, back then they needed to hand code every little detail in assembly. Even if they just ported the engine to XBLA and made it HD 16:9 they could use the original engine for the follow ups.

New Sega just needs to stop worrying so much about risks and do it.
