So... I built a Tube Amplifier

Post by fvgazi »

I figured I'd share this with you guys because Tubes are "retro" (well.. antiquated) and I know there are quite a few guitar / bass players on this forum. This project is also the reason why I haven't played many games as of late. I've included some pictures.

Background: My bandmate and I were discussing how much we hate our jobs and would rather focus on music and other DIY projects more often, so we decided to start an amplifier repair and design business. After almost a year of reading up and actually fixing some vintage amps we are deciding to make our business legit and I am starting to make amps form scratch. This one is modeled from a book I read that had been based on a Fender Princeton / Tweed. It's called a 2 Stroke Amp.

I'll be building the 2x12 cabinet soon and also the cabinet to place the amplifier head(shown) in. My woodworking has been inspired by MJMJR. Right now I've been playing it out of one speaker in my solid state fender combo and it sounds alright, but not nearly as good when it's through a good set of speakers.

Great to make these. I have a Marantz PM-68, not that special...
I recently fixed my Dali 107 Speakers. They had speaker rot. So I replaced the rubber. They sound great again. Keep on rockin´.

Vacumn tubes are the shit! I still want to get some Nixies or build a solid state Tesla Coil one day.
