Which Sega Saturn Controller is the best overall?

Post by claudio »

We all know that the sega saturn controller is the greatest controller ever for beat-em-ups and fighting games.

Which is better?

I chose the Model 2 controller. First of all the triggers or much sharper feeling, and second of all its simply the perfect shape, very light and all the buttons are very tight and responsive.

I agree that the model 2 controller had the best buttons, although the model 1 had a more expensive feel. I always the 3D pad if the analog is actually used in the game - I think it one of the strangest looking and one the most comfortable to use controller ever although not with the dpad which is a bit awkward

Model 2 with ease, it's the perfect old skool pad. Dpad is the best dpad ever, 6 buttons and 2 shoulders.
An arcade stick is fine too.

yeah personally i think the light gun is perfect for most saturn games, like astal and x-men vs. street fighter.

I don't know the differences in the poll options however, the 1st gen US Saturn controller shoulder buttons sucked...
The Japanese pads were the best (which a year or two later came to the US I believe) but I had a Japanese Saturn then so I don't know. Actually when I got another Saturn, US, it had the same pad as my J-Saturn so perhaps that's model 2... But I dunno~

I wish capcom CPS arcade boards all had Saturn ports for model 2's. Best d-pad,size,curves, and button combo ever. I have PS2 sticks and official SF controllers to be adapted to every other system I own fighting games on. No reason for the Sega Saturn.
