New to the world of Xbox 360 and Cave

I was tempted by a used Xbox 360 60Gb Pro on ebay recently. It arrived today complete with box, cables, wireless controller etc and I've had a chance to set it up and play some shooters on it.

While I was waiting for it to arrive I ordered Deathsmiles Deluxe Edition and found Dodonpachi Resurrection in a local Game store.

Now, I'd never used an Xbox 360 before and I'd never played a Cave game before.

Can you imagine how I felt when I got it all set up and played Deathsmiles for the first time? After a while I discovered that I could zoom the screen slightly to get a larger play area, and then found the 1080P setting in the Xbox dashboard settings?!

And after that the sheer joy of playing Dodonpachi Resurrection for the first time (having noticed that the setup screens are identical to Deathsmiles - very nice feature), having set up my rotatable desk-mount for the TV?

I'm utterly gobsmacked by the sheer quality in these titles and the way that the Xbox 360 displays them. Utter joy! And there are so many characters and play styles to choose from! Novice, 360, Arcade, Arrange A, Arrange B, Black Label this, Black Label that...!!!

I'm a convert. :D

Off to amend my sig now...

I realise you've probably all heard it before, but it's new and exciting to me! lol ;)

(PS I'm using component cables and getting 1080P setting showing on the TV when I check the resolution - any need to use HDMI instead?)

welcome to the club man. I got my 360 a couple months ago, and I've barely touched any games besides my 360 shmups since.

Yeah I think I know what you mean! I hope I can still spread myself out among the other oldies! But there's just so MUCH in these titles....

The first Cave game I played was also Deathsmiles and I was utterly enamored, haven't looked back since. Total shmup addict now. I'm not very good at them but that's another matter. Practice makes perfect!
Welcome to the club!

Can anyone recommend a decent but not too costly arcade stick for use with the Xbox 360 please? Not bothered about fighting games on 360, but only for use with shmups (if that makes a difference).

Thanks!

I use the hori dead or alive stick and find it quite comfortable. The madcatz sf4 stick is also a great stick for the price.

the EX2 seems to be the same thing as the DOA4 stick, just no artwork on it. If that's the case, then yeah it's a comfy stick for sure. It is similar in size/weight of the Dreamcast Agetec stick.

Better still, if you want to upgrade to Sanwa parts later you can:

Cool. I just got one! I look forward to trying it in stock form first though. Getting sick of the deaths caused by using the hand-held control pad...
