Cave Story for Wii Ware



An absolute masterpiece! Fantastic gaming experience that I thought had gone the way of cartridges and wired-controllers. It looked 8-bit, it played like a 2D Metroid game (gameplay that was very reminiscent of Super Metroid), and had a sometimes quirky story. If you like Metroidvania games, then you'll ABSOLUTELY ADORE this game. I can't recommend it enough. Download it and play it!

My only complaints are that it's far too short, I want more! And there was no exploration percentage of completion at the end, like there is on Metroid games. I'd like to know how well I did. I ended with 30 missiles and 45 life energy.

Are there any sequels/prequels?

The original game is free on PC. There's a remake on the 3DS.

and a 'plus' version on Steam, with achievements, etc.

Cave Story is a pretty 'big' indie game.

Freeware would have been a lot better than 1,200 Wii Points, or $12. Oh well, I would have gladly paid twice that.

Cave Story is probably the biggest freeware indie game ever. I don't think anything else even comes close to its popularity.

Huh? I remember red spikes and red liquid that hurt me. Was that hell? My ending had the island blow up, and me and the scientists and some Migma's survive.

Hell is a hidden location in the game. To get to Hell you must make specific choices.

There's probably an ending guide on gamefaqs if you'd like to look up how to get there.

Oh, and Hell is the hardest level. Seriously. Save those Life Pots for the final boss!

How is the 3DS version?
