Kaillera, Dosbox IPX emulation & other multiplayer hacks

Post by Anapan »

Noted the "Server Searching" thread (thanks!) and was just thinking about the good times I had playing games multiplayer using the Kaillera interface. I've been tweaking my new computer's software and saw that dosbox supports multiplayer games using some simple settings in most cases. It looks like I could even get OMF-2097 playing multiplayer over the internet.
Does anyone here still use Kaillera?
Has anyone here used dosbox to play Doom, Warcraft 1/2, Master of Orion, Z, Descent II, etc. on dosbox?
The last time I used Kaillera was playing Twinkle Star Sprites, and of course the Mame implementation is flawless, but many other emulators support it.
WinUAE Amiga emulator supports it.
What about VNC & other desktop sharing clients? My friend and I tried it but failed because of lag - even one player on a remote virtual machine was painfully unplayable. Has anyone got that type of thing to work?
Tell us what worked, and what you've played multiplayer that wasn't meant to play over the internet.
