Xbox 360 Green Tint and Red Ring... Uh ohz...

I just beat the Proto Fal-Cie in Final Fantasy XIII-2. My reward?

A red ring of death.

Unfortunately, I can't equip this accessory and I am unequipped - in terms of repair knowledge - to address the problem.

The symptoms:
-Red Ring (Error: E74) half the time I start it up.
-The other half of the time I boot it up, the screen is tinted green and is all grainy

If anyone knows a simple fix, or has a trustworthy link, let me know. I can do basic soldering.

I'm gonna give it the night to cool off and hope it revives.

ds -

Unfortunately, I bought it in 2007 so I believe it is out of warranty.

If it's out of warranty, take it apart and reapply the thermal paste on the GPU. It's often the culprit of a RROD. While you're in there, dust and clean it out well.

Thanks, that doesn't sound to bad. Where precisely is the thermal paste and how would I reapply it?

I wish you luck. The E74 error popping up could mean you're completely screwed.

E74 has nothing to do with Thermal paste...

-sigh-

I believe E74 means it isn't seeing the AV cable or there's a problem with the GPU. This is the usual RROD that people refer to. You can try replacing the thermal paste and perhaps replacing the X clamps with screws and washers per the many guides on the internet, but it is pretty likely that you're screwed. :(

I tried the clamp and paste replacement along with the heat gun trick, also using flux to try and help the solder along with 2 360s. A friend tried with one of them too. They'd go back to RROD within a few weeks.
