Fun Famicom/Super Famicom games to import.

So I've recently acquired a copy of Gyromite and a Caesar Famicom-to-SNES converter. Now I don't speak Japanese at all, I was mostly just gonna track down a few favourites (was thinkin' of getting all of the older Kirby games, maybe Rockman 2, a few other random action/platformer game) but I was thinking about Japan only releases and really couldn't think of any awesome ones, aside from a couple RPGs which I've only baquiredaquiredeen able to play though fan translations.

So what are some good Famicom/Super Famicom-only games worth shipping in? Also accepting games that were changed drastically, censored, or are just particular points of interest.

Famicom titles that I would recommend off the top of my head: Crisis Force, Parodius, Holy Diver, Gimmick!, Hebereke, Gradius II, Kid Dracula, King Kong 2, Arkanoid II, Wai Wai World 1 & 2.

There's Super Bomberman 3, 4 and 5. The third one was released in PAL territories, I think, but 4 and 5 were SFC exclusives.


Are you aware that you don't really need an adapter to play SFC carts on an NTSC-U SNES?

Yeah, but I don't like chopping shit up like that. Back when I was a kid, my Dad had an ESL student from Japan, and he would bring back Genesis games for me. My Dad would grind off the chunks of plastic on the carts so that I could plug them into my Genesis and play them.

Sadly, I don't own any of that stuff anymore, I would love to, but I also, basically, refuse to fuck up my systems at this point. Especially when my converter came so cheap and easy.

Adapters intended for US SNES <-> SFC are in fact comparatively rare today. Despite the obvious direct 1:1 pinout. One of the more well known models is named 'Super Adaptor' and looks nice.

By far most SNES adapters were aimed at Europe. Needing a cartridge inserted for lockout. Not all of them support the wider (Super FX, SGB, CX4, SA-1, BS-X, etc) pin connector either. These adapters weren't often sold in US or Japan, because many PAL games block 60hz and accordingly refuse to play even with lockout bypassed.

theclaw, my Famicom<>SNES adapter is a Caesar (one of these). This guy sold his for 31, I paid 25 and it came with Super Mario Kart for the famicom. Even if the adapter typically sells for less than that online, the fact that I got it in town made me jump on it.

I can't actually find much info about it online, though.

Hahaha, a friend of mine has a gamegenie and he asked me when I brought over my converter "Can't I use my game genie to play import games?"

I said "yeah if you chop it up"
