Ceasing activity on board.

Post by Limewater »

"Goodbye" threads are dumb, and I feel stupid making one. This is just to notify anyone who might want/need to reach me for some reason that I'll be checking private messages for about another week. After that, I'll be gone for the forseeable future.

I don't think I have any unresolved business with any forum members, so I don't expect this is a big deal. I just don't want to inadvertently screw someone over.

You do know that you get notified by email if you have any PMs unless you supplied a bogus email address.

Yes, I agree that goodbye threads are dumb. Just stop participating/reading if a board is not of interest to you. If someone really wants to reach you, they can send a PM which you'll get notified by email.

Agreed, but this is one of the more tolerable goodbye threads.

Goodbye threads are a bit like suicide notes: the more tersely written, the more likely it is to happen. That's why I can't stand those BS goodbye posts that spell out reasons for leaving and give numerous call-outs to members that they appreciate -- it's clear that those posters don't truly intend to leave, because their notes evidence an emotional attachment to the forum. I conclude that those posts along those lines are rather transparent attempts to get other members to say "Noooo, stay please!"

On the other hand, this goodbye post is downright Spartan, and it doesn't even get into reasons as to why OP is leaving.

On that basis, I predict this is one of the ones that's gonna stick, so I respect that.

No suicide notes are the things you leave after you leave hundreds of online forums without a post but nobody notices you're gone.

Also, there really should be a web community for posting suicide notes to help cut down on paper waste. Anyone want to create the next facebook with me? I need someone who can create one of those www dot intenet things.
