Saturn Sticks

Post by Spyke »

Hi,

I've just bought a Jap Saturn that I'll be playing shmups (and only shmups) on, and I like to use an arcade stick. On my PS consoles I use the Namco Arcade Stick, which is awesome. Now ideally I'd like an adapter to get the Namco stick working on the Saturn, but I can't find anything "readily and easily" available.

I've seen a few sticks available for the Saturn: Sega Virtua Stick, ASCII Fighting Stick X, Hori Real Arcade VF (but only 3 or 4 buttons?)...

Any advice as to which will be "best"? The Namco has really nice microswitched stick - any of these options comparable? Or, something else entirely?

With thanks,

Ant :)

I believe the Hori Fighting Stick is the best one:

The PS1/PS2 Arcade Sticks have the widest range of adaptors for other Consoles and PCs. The Saturn will be hard to find, I spotted a site but out of stock. A starting point for your search, good luck.

No probs, hope you are pleased with it when it arrives.

There is a nice guide here if you fancy changing the components about a bit:

I personally like the ASCII stick best. Unlike the Virtua Stick, the stick itself is more clicky and less gummy feeling. Only comparable issue is no rapid-fire.

But if you're willing to spend more than $20-$30, you should probably go with the Hori stick.

The best is the HSS-0130, but it comes at a great price. Realistically, the Hori you picked is a fantastic controller, personally I use a HSS-0136 Virtua Stick, but I am not competing.

The HSS-0136 looks lovely - if I ever see one affordable I'll get one too but for now I think I'll be happy with the Fighting Stick SS. Some nice choices out there!
