RVGFANATIC great site/blog for game reviews and nostalgia

Post by AznKhmerBoi »

I've been reading alot of his reviews and nostalgia gaming moments. I have to say its very well written with a great layout. His reviews are fantastic, but what i really liked most is the christmas stories. I was very captivated by his nostalgiac memories of gaming during Christmas in 90's, it took me back those magical times playing games with family, friends, and rival street fighter kids on the block.

I have to say I agree. RVGFANATIC is an amazing effort. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe it's ran by only one person? Pretty insane. The reviews and articles definitely take me back to my own suburban childhood. And that Steve guy who runs the site... what a great bloke.

Oh wait... it's me, lol.

Thank you so much for your touching words, Azn! Comments like yours always make my heart flutter... "nostalgic" is an adjective often used to describe RVG Fanatic. Not surprisingly, there were hundreds of boys who grew up in early-mid 1990s suburban America just like I did... my experiences resonate with many others because although our towns had different names, as well as the local mom 'n pops... they were a lot alike. The only difference is... only one of them is yours :)

Ah, that Christmas article. I had a lot of fun making that one, and I think it's one of the best pieces I've ever crafted. It's filled to the brim with nostalgic memories. I read it 2-3 times a year and always fall in love with the SNES over and over again.

I can't believe it's been over 5 years now since I first opened the doors of RVGFANATIC. It seems like only yesterday (OK, maybe more like 3 years ago, but still...) I'm trying to put out a new piece sometime later this month. It's gonna be for a very special game indeed...

Once again, thanks for all your kind words. I also love the picture! There was just something special and magical about growing up when the SNES was alive and well... having good friends all live within a 5-block radius... what a special time to be a kid. I'm happy to share my experiences, and overwhelmed when I hear how much some of my stories resonate with people all over the world. Cheers!

EDIT: Here's the Christmas article for anyone who is curious to check it out. It highlights my Christmas memories from the late '80s to '91-'94 before culminating in detailing how Christmas 2010 "turned the clock back"...

It is a great read. Not one I keep up with as often as I should, but I do enjoy reading it.

Good work Steve.

^ Thanks y'all. I also want to say I appreciate how much Racketboy has linked my site reviews within RB's various hidden gem and such articles. It's an honor to partner up with RB.

On a side note, my site is currently down due to maintenance. Hopefully it'll be back up sooner rather than later.

I'm a little over halfway to 10 years as well as 100 reviews. If all goes well, both goals will be reached in 2017 :) (I'm also thinking of producing shorter reviews so I can crank them out a little faster... a la Bonkers, Thunder Spirits, etc. We'll see, as old habits are hard to die, lol)

Ah, see what you did? You said his name three times and now we have to deal with a wild Kikko.

Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Nice! your site is back up :D, cant wait to see your reviews on Thunder Spirits.
I played the game both on snes and genesis and i have to say the genesis one is much more superior because of less slow down.

Hey Steve, just finished reading your article the "The Wonder Years", which i really enjoyed. There are so many awesome characters that you grew up with, especiall your uncle Jimmy. Hes seem like legendary person in your life and would be cool if you could share some pics with us :D. So have you seen him lately or still keep in touch with him? And how about Billy the Maniac? Does he still drive 100mph on the free way lol?

Great questions. Wow I clicked on the link and just realized tomorrow, March 16, 2012, will be the four year anniversary since I wrote THE WONDER YEARS. Time flies!

Uncle Jimmy and I see each other at family get togethers. He's doing well. I will always remember all the ghost stories he told me and my brother growing up, his rampant sense of humor (which he still has) and just what a great male figure he was for me growing up. Legendary character is a good way of putting it. His son, David*, is the "little bro I never had." I took David out to lunch last month, and we caught up a bit. He and I hang out about once every 2.5 months or so. Recently, we got our 2 player on with SNES games like Combatribes, Goof Troop and BS Out of Bounds Golf. David made this crazy trick shot in the latter game that made both of us jump out of our seats.

*in fact, I wrote about David here

http://www.rvgfanatic.com/7485/510301.html

As for Billy the Maniac, naw he doesn't drive 100 on the freeway these days... he's down to about 97 now, lol j/k. He's toned down his wild lifestyle significantly over the years. He's not only a husband but a father now. I recently saw him at his daughter's 3rd birthday bash last month. He's doing well, too. Looks happy, and now seems to be "sane" lol. He still talks about his crazier days from the rare time to time, but he no longer lives that kind of lifestyle.

I was a young teen in the late '90s when I first met the wild, care-free Billy version of himself. Young teens are very impressionable, so I'll never forget those "Billy Adventures" lol.

Thanks for bringing back some fond memories. I hadn't clicked on The Wonder Years article in some time now...
