I have 4 different memory cards for the N64 and every single one of them is corrupted and I can't save. Even games that give me the option to fix it, it never really does. Is this common and is there any way to fix it or keep it from happening?
Harper I am looking at you since I tend to link the N64 with you.

Sometimes the N64 will say my card is corrupt, but reinserting it will fix the problem. I guess the connections are picky.
Have you cleaned out all the connections? Tried different controllers?

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Have you tried different controllers to make sure the "reader" end isn't borked?
[Edit] - Oops, DinnerX already covered that.
So I'll toss out the general recommendation to stick with all original accessories on the N64.

Yeah, what brand are they? I bet they're not all Nintendo brand, if any.
Definitely clean both the memory card pins and the controller pins thoroughly.
That reminds me, I found this recently: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37099
Basically, that dude designed that PCB that will fit on a Nintendo Controller Pak. It's basically an adapter to use a non-volatile memory. What that basically means is that the memory can store the data with out the need for the battery. Also, since the memory he designed that board to use is 4 times the size of the memory in an N64 Pak, you can install a switch and get 4 memory cards in one, and it'll most likely last you the rest of your life!
I didn't read through that entire thread, so I don't know if he's just selling them or if he was nice enough to release the design (which means you can get that board made up for super cheap and make it yourself, it would probably cost $10 in parts).

Yeah my question would be, are they Nintendo brand? If not, there's your problem. haha
Re: ?s about N64 Memory Cards
I've done the cleaning and switching all before. 2 are Nintendo brand. Maybe I just have really bad luck with them because everyone I pick up this happens to. I figured since this happens to me all the time it was a common problem. The N64 is my least played system so I never really mess with it that often but today I had the urge to play some Gex 64 Enter the Gecko.

All I've got is a 3rd party 4 in 1 card and it doesn't have problems too often. I need to reinsert it now and then, but no memory is ever really lost.

I was actually kind of hoping this thread would be about memory card management. I need a good idea on how to keep up with all my saves. With over 100 games and only 4 memory cards, it is no easy task. haha

Guide on backing up memory card saves to a PC.

I wouldn't recommend this to casual N64 fans, but you could hunt down an N64 "Adaptoid". It's USB and allows direct memory card save transfer to PC. 'Course, I got mine back when they were still just $20...harper wrote:I was actually kind of hoping this thread would be about memory card management.
