Japanese Pottery Translation, HELP!

Post by Luke »

A Korean told me these are in Mandarin. A Chinese person told me it's in Japanese.

Can someone please translate, or point me in the right direction to some place I can find a translation?

Thanks in advance.

Hah, in your defense it's pretty cool. And yeah probably a good thing to know what it means.

Looks like Japanese, but the kanji is too fancy for me.

Definitely Japanese. On the third picture, I can make out the hiragana for "mi" and "ra." Can't read the kanji though.

Thanks for the information.

I think it's from the late 1800's or early 1900's, but I'm trying to make sure it is authentic. All tips help, and again thanks.

Reminds me how the vocals for the Ghost in the Shell movie theme are supposedly in ancient Japanese.

This must be Secret Ancient Japanese.

I think that's "chi", and that line says Michiru or Michiro. Not sure though, it's hard to read. There's other kana in the 3rd picture too: ku, no, yo, and ke stand out.

The only kanji I can clearly make out in the 3rd pic is yama (山), which means mountain.

The first pic looks like it has the kanji dai (大) in it, which means great.
