Final Fantasy XIII-2 ends with a 'To be Continued" screen, making people think that a Final Fantasy XIII-3 would be released. Well according to IGN, Square Enix will be releasing DLC "episodes" to see the ending.

Pay to see ending of Final Fantasy XIII-2
Re: Pay to see ending of Final Fantasy XIII-2
This is definitely news to me! As a loyal fan of the ff-series I've got to say that I find that to be really disappointing. When a game is a full retail release it should be a complete experience... not something that says "to be continued" at the end.
I would be pissed if I had purchased the game.

Jokes on them, who the fuck would pay money to see the continuation of such a stupid/lame/badly written story?
(I liked FF13, mostly cause of the awesome battle system, but the story was ALL OVER the place)

This sounds like the type of shit Activision or EA would pull, not a Japanese developer. Square Enix just keeps getting worse and worse.
Re: Pay to see ending of Final Fantasy XIII-2
Although I'm not very fond that they are doing this, I think the way it is being stated is biased. Lots of games have sequels, technically they are all "pay to see the (new) ending".
That applies both to games with little in terms of story (such as Sonic or Super Mario) to other games.
In movies in particular, you have to "pay" to see the ending of e.g. trilogies... But if you have to pay 3 times to see 3 times 2 hours stories, is that unfair?
So provided the DLC content's length is appropriate for the price charged, I'm not sure this is unfair. The same applies for full fledged sequels, I mean XIII-2 itself is "pay to see the ending onf Final Fantasy XIII" if you put it on those terms and apparently people were fine with THAT.

Half-Life 2 episodic content? Provided it is quality content for the right price I don't have an issue with this kind of practice. It does sound a bit iffy but how is it different?
What about stuff like Golden Sun on the GBA? 2nd half of the story was sold as a full price game.
Lots of games have ongoing stories, in PC it used to be common to have expansions like Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction. In console games Megaman is an obvious example. Castlevania on the GBA to the DS had a rare case of revisiting the same protagonist with Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, and they are both great games worth playing.

I'm not surprised. In interviews with the director even last year he mentioned add-on chapters via DLC. Whatever. Eventually I'll get the game, and when it says "to be continued," I'll consider that beaten and move on.
Re: Pay to see ending of Final Fantasy XIII-2
this is why i RGH'd my 360. It is my habit to support current gen platforms by buying all my titles new, and most upon release, and we all know how much games are going for these days. Now if i fork out $65 i expect to get the ENTIRE GAME not some bull$hit DLC that is released in drips and drabs to lengthen my experience with said title.
I know game companies are trying to make money where they can, but enough is enough. How can Squenix even think it's FAIR to charge to see the ending IF that is the case? I can see if FF13X-2 was of FF X's calibre, but from the sounds of the reviews, it's nowhere close, it looks like it's all quantity and no quality...

Well next up (you can easily google for dozens of articles on this) is the fact that they want faster FF releases, annually within 1-2 years worth of development, specifically citing they want to tap into CoD, Assassin's Creed, etc's release style, so they can "keep their fans interested".
Quantity equals quality apparently!!!
Good riddance. I'm not touching XIII-2 and am probably done with SE, they suck. Big time.

There's so much wrong with this train of thought.
This isn't comparable to a full-length sequel at all. It's more like buying a book and finding out you have to pay for the last two chapters separately.
