Remember when I said comic books were dying?

Look no further, unbelievers.

I seriously thought that cover was a porno parody until I read the article. Little did I know it was something even worse.

Let's play a game: Name the newest superhero you can think of. He has to be entirely original, and not a spin-off.

Got any? Me neither, as none have been made in my lifetime. Is it any surprise the industry is in the can?

Ugh, this is totally pathetic. I was just telling my brother recently that I noticed the comic industry hasn't created anything new and good for quite some time now. I mean, just look at today's Batman movies for example! They show no influence from anything more recent than The Animated Series. If they have so little talent for new material that they're going back to The Watchmen, they've totally jumped the shark.

Oh dear God! The whole comic industry is come to crashing halt because they made a cash-in sequel comic. How long have you guys been reading comics? This is common practice. No different than quick, thoughtless cash-in sequels to video games.

Mitchell Hundred.

Seriously, stop bitching about how bad the comic industry is, and read something by Vaughan. You think the Comic industry was in a great place in Alan Moore's day? Get real. Mass media industries are crass by nature: be they comics, movies, or video games. That doesn't mean that there are no good comics; they're just few and far between. Just like they were in Moore's time.

Comics are now hitting a stride in popularity and critical respect and just the movies must be making them far more cash than all those "Lana gets superpowers" or "Supermega collector first edition" did.

*Googles things* Huh, look at that, I never knew Ex Machina was a DC property. I thought Image published it. Alright fair enough.

One can not deny though, comics need to desperately expand their core audience beyond young adult males or the industry will be dying.

They will in a few years. Some of the things Scott Snyder is doing will be viewed as classics and I fully expect future movies or cartoons are whatever to borrow from it. His Court of Owls storyline has been pretty epic so far

For the record, I see no animated series influence in the recent movies. Those have only influenced the video games.

It's not like no one's trying. There's plenty of adult material out there from Vertigo. Plus, there are great books out there for females like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel & Faith(emphasis on Faith), Batwoman, Batgirl, Y:The Last Man(which features a lot of good female characters), Wonder Woman, Super Girl, etc. I'm leaving out Catwoman since that book seems to epitomize all of the negative stereotypes women have about comic book women. Probably why I'm not a fan, I don't see Catwoman as a good role model or a good example of women in comic books. She's oversexualized and has very loose morals and even comes off as a bit psychotic at times
