here's the "interesting" part:

I've heard from one reliable industry source that Microsoft intends to incorporate some sort of anti-used game system as part of their so-called Xbox 720.

It's not clear if that means that the system wouldn't play used games or how such a set-up would work. Obvious approaches—I'm theorizing here—like linking a copy of a game to a specific Xbox Live account could seemingly be foiled by used-game owners who would keep their system offline. My source wasn't sure how Microsoft intended to implement any anti-used game system in the new machine.

A push in any way by Microsoft against used games would likely be cheered from publishers sick of seeing retailers like GameStop crow about their revenues from the sale of used games. But it could potentially anger consumers who rely on buying cheaply-sold used games or even pass games to relatives or friends.

What do you think: is this likely? an inevitability? fear mongering? sensationalism? baseless? Would it impact your decision to buy the new Xbox one way or the other?

After the failure of the PSP Go, I doubt this is real.

I could only see it working if they used a Steam-like business model but that would require an Internet connection. Not everyone has an Internet connection or even broadband for that matter. If they required an Internet connection for their new console it would be a very bold move.

The again maybe they have something like OnLive up their sleeves...

If they actually do this, or something like it, I can guarantee you now that I wont ever be buying that console... EVER.

Insert game

Never get it back

It's going to have a 2000 disk changer in its belly, and it's going to be welded shut.

And you better not mod the games out, because then you'll void your warranty, and 80% of them will get the Red Rings o- wait, that's so last gen. 80% of them will get the Purple Squares of Pingas.

I predict Download only, then you couldnt sell it...

Whatever the idea is I believe Microsoft has control of the market.

(This is only my opinon and cant say I agree with that option but then again Im not in control or even know shit).

The more I think about it, the more I think it will be a service similar to OnLive. The console will probably just be a cheapo PC with a stripped down version of Windows 8 on it. You'll probably be able to play the new Xbox games on any Windows 8 device for that matter. All you'll need is a bluetooth controller and you are set. That is my prediction if these rumors are true.

Edit: They might even sell a 3G version of their console for people without Internet connections.
