Action Replay 4 in 1 help WTF...and good info ?

Post by oizukitom »

Hi Men,

Finding this site got me all excited so I fired up the twins ( US Saturn 8000 and 8000A )
I went to old faithful xmen vs. street fighter (original disk) I am getting multiple problems...

Cartriage not suitable for this system
Or Disc not suitable for this system
If the ACTION REPLY loads and you start a game a screen in Japanese and I believe it says that this
game needs a 4MB RAM cart...The game never starts. Bad AR BUT I popped in Virtua Fighter Kids (Jap Original) no problem the game works fine and the region by pass feature of the Action Reply works. I do not have any 1 MB of RAM games to test.

Is this valid info ?
http://www.gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id= ... ega_saturn

I could go Import and US versions of the Saturn. I think I have had issues with the AR since I purchased it. Version 2.01 btw. For example, the vs. graphic in XMvsSF is all messed up. I think I have bad static RAM in the AR. If the above info is correct and you can jumper a Saturn to play Jap games I will just snag a 4/1 from RB's store and be done.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Tom V.

......What??

I read this 3 times and i still dont know the problem

now your saying you have a US saturns

you popped in the import Xmen Vs SF

and if AR doesnt work you get cart/cd invalid

this is understandable as nothing is passing the region

now as for when it does load

check the switch and see if its not halfway or what not as i beleive XvsSF must have the 4MB ram.

as for the jumpers, just get yourself a new cart, and be on the safe side, because with that method, you would need to install a switch to change region, where a cart can just bypass it

also have you checked the connectors on the saturn, this by itself could be bad

if you get the 4in1 at RBs store, you wont need to do the region switch, because thats 1 of the 4 in 1 features

Mine aren't Action Replays, so its probably not mine.
Did the Action Replay menu come up when you booted the system?
Is the cart in all the way?

I read my post again and it is a tad unclear...second try.

I have 2 US Saturns 8000 and 8000A. I also have an Action Reply (Plus) version 2.01. Both work great for US
games.

The two games I tested on both systems Xmen vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Vs. Street Fighter jap imports. - I have played these games before on both systems with the same Action Reply ( I think I bought this from A place called buyrite.net in NC, USA years ago and it was a 5 in 1 imports, 1RAM, 4RAM, storage and ? )

I think the RAM is bad - The AR works great for non RAM cart games like Virtua Fighter Kids and Street Fighter Zero 2. So I can play imports but not 4MB games - which is the entire point.

Sounds like the RAM access on the AR is bad. The region bypass and memory manager work but no access to the 4/1 MB RAM.

The second question is ( thank you for your answer dragon ) can I convert one of the Saturns to an import player (JAP) using the above procedure permanantly. Buy an RB RAM cart and go from there ?

Thank you for your time,
Tom V.

Yeah, that should work.
The other option is to install a modchip and then patch the ISOs of the imports and then re-burn them.
My RAM carts just won't take care of the importing issue.

If you need more clarification just let me know :)

That's cool.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to convert one of the 8000's or buy a Jap Saturn.
Anyway I will get to try one of your RAM carts.
Thanks,

doing the onboard mod for region free requires a switch to be installed, which can be annoying, as for not accessing the ram, are you sure its the cart? did you try fiddling with the switch on it(is there even a switch on it), it may not even be a 5in1, you could of been scammed

I myself use a ST-Key for my imports with RAM

and just a plain old gameshark for everything else

Pretty sure this has to be the Action Reply

Hi,
I opened my AR up once before when this monster showed his ugly face. This a 5in1 AR. According to the pcb it is the correct version. I it is just broke. I am going to clean the cart and slots on the Saturns again and see what happens.
Thank you,

Tom

Problem solved

Post by oizukitom »

Hi,

Problem solved. I read on the lik-sang, ncs, and Shining force sites about this device and the issues poeple run into...

I took the thing apart and comfirmed via the PCB - it is a 5in1. Cool.
Then on the 8000 I hit the blue button next to the battery and I cleaned the cart slot and
cart. Everything works now. The ncs site mentioned that the cart and cart slot must be very clean for the
4MB RAM function to work.

Thanks,

Tom
