Good Feeling

Post by RCBH928 »

Yesterday, I finished Shadows of the Empire on the 64, a game I wanted to play since like '96 on a night where we were watching GoldenEye(the movie) and a friend of a friend was playing this game on the 64(I believe the 64 just arrived here) and I was mesmerized by it ever since.

Well I finally got to play it and I cant do more than SMILE =) such a good feeling to fulfill such an old....may I say "dream".

Considering its a launch title for the 64, I looked its gamespot review which got 7.1/10 which did upset me since I thought it was a "AAA" title, here is gamespot's review:
Problems with the control, camera angles, and frustrating save feature keep Shadows from reaching its full potential.
I really dont understand the hate. Controls were not perfect but given its a launch title and ppl were just switching from 2D to 3D I thought they shouldnt have been so picky. I played it in 2012 and still thought it was ok! Camera angle, 2 dont work well, and 2 are fine. I had seen worse camera angles on Mario Sunshine . Saving is not bad, its on the end of the level which if you know what you are doing u can complete in 15 min or so. On the other hand Turok that received 8.1/10 , had a hellish save system, lost in a maze for hours and a save point every 30min IF you can find it, some times it takes over an hour!!

in the end I found this game is fun , shooting lasers is a ton of fun, and given its age and time period I thought they should have given this game more chance than 7/10 . I wont lie though, it feels like its an incomplete game at times.

Do you have a similar experience to share of a game you love and always wanted to play and finally did?

It wasn't perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough of it back in the day.

Not the same thing, but the only game that I still have from when I was a kid is Sonic 2 for the master system. A few months back I finished it with the good ending for the first time. It was a crazy good feeling to do that after all these years. Now if I can just finish Teddy Boy and The Ninja I can die happy....

Mr Driller on PSone. I played the demo so much when I was a kid and when I finally came across it in a second hand games store... I was so happy.

I used to live in South Lake Tahoe as a kid, and my mom worked in the casino's there so I spent a lot of time in the arcades. In the prize booth of one of the arcades they had a Game Gear for some absurd amount of tickets. I always wanted one more than anything I could think of but could never get the tickets to get it.

I never got a Game Gear and didnt really ever think about it again, until my friend and I were at Toys R Us and I stumbled across the Majesco re-release version for $20. I immediately remember wanting it so badly and I scrounged up cash somehow (just a teenager with no job or anything) and got it with all the games they had. It was a great feeling to finally play the system that I had wanted to badly as a kid. The lit screen, the monster size, killing 6 batteries in a matter of minutes! Glorious...

I had this game back around the time of its original release. I think the reviews are pretty fair about it. At the time, it was a real treat to topple AT-ATs on Hoth, to battle the sewer creature, and to race on speeder bikes in Mos Eisley, but quite a lot of the game was a bit dull. All the wompa stuff, for example, seemed to drag on forever.

It's always a good feeling to get something you always looked at with amazement and wonder as a child. For me that was the Saturn. I had a friend with an N64 and I had a PlayStation, but I had never seen a Saturn outside of stores and I'd look at those long boxes with such curiosity. Though, of all the games I remember the cover of Bug! is the one that stands out.

I remember one of my friends telling me he got a saturn for christmas around the time playstation and nintendo 64 were kicking butt. This must have been xmas 1996, I wanted a playstation so bad. I remember renting launch titles for both systems, and I think I was more of a playstation fan. I had my super nintendo at the time with a handful of games and still was enjoying them. I remember my reaction to him saying he wanted/got a saturn was just WTF? WHY would you get a saturn?
