Anyone Here Remember Comic Cards?

Post by BurningDoom »

Anyone here old enough to remember comic cards? Back in the late 80s to mid 90s comic cards were all the rage with the kiddies. I was the right age, and was already a comic book fan. So I had a ton of these, and still have them in a few binders in the closet. The artwork was usually really cool looking on these, and usually better than your average monthly comic's artwork.

What are some of your favorite non-sport trading cards? Do you have favorite sets? Or maybe a few individual cards that you're in love with? Share it here!

I LOVED these two Spider-Man sets:

Fleer Ultra Spider-Man 1995:

Spider-Man Premium 1996:

I only have a handful of the Spider-Man '96 set, I so wish I had more of them. But I do have the complete 1995 Fleer Ultra set (minus some subset cards), and what a beauty of a set it is.

Marvel Flairs were always cool, too. Those were the double-thick cards seen here:

And of course Marvel Masterpieces were cool, I especially loved the 1994, 1995, and 1996 sets, this pic is from the '96 set, I only have the 1994 set of these, I would love the other two I mentioned (espeically the '96 set since Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell are my 2 favorite fantasy artists) which I only have a small handful of the 1995 ones:

On the DC side, the DC Masterpieces were pretty awesome, I have this set:

I have some fantasy art and comic cards, but they're all in my closet at my parent's house still. Off the top of my head I have Boris sets 1-4 and even managed to get a signed card from 4 I think it is, Frazetta 1 & 2, Olivia 1-3, Bernie Wrightson, several of the Hildebrant brothers series, Sorayama, Chris Achillos, Melting Pot, 2nd or 3rd year Marvel Masterpiece, plus some random fantasy and comic ones I traded with a friend and some other artists series I'm forgetting.

I have the whole set. They were selling entire boxes of them at clearance price at K-B Toys one year, and I picked up a couple boxes. It is a very pretty looking set, can't imagine why they were on clearance; this was the 90s when this happened, not recently.

yeah I loved these.

Still got them somwhere.

When my brother and I would go the the hobby/card shop I would get some comic cards and my brother some sports cards.

I have a thick binder full of them. Lots of different sets from early to mid 90's

They were awesome to collect back then, but now I dont think they are worth anything.

If you know where to look you can get any complete set for cheap.

Them, like many overhyped soon to be collectibles, were anything but.

But they are an important part of our childhoods.

How much? If we're talking reasonable amounts, I'd get them in a heartbeat.

And yeah, they definitely had a few decent baseball cards there.

I dunno. I found the earlier Marvel Universe cards (1 and 2) a lot cleaner to look at. They kept the neat trivia and added basic power ratings.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.
