Games that made you take a break from gaming
I cannot name a specific example at this moment, but on occasion there is a game so great you are upset that it ended and do not think you'll be able to play a game as good as that one, or at the opposite end of the spectrum a game so horrid it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

This isn't exactly what you're talking about but since I got to a certain point in Illusion of Gaia (probably almost a year ago) I stopped playing and have hardly touched my snes since. haha
And on Skyward Sword I stopped before the final boss battle because I didn't want to finish the game without finishing the game and I ended up just quitting altogether.[edit]Final[/edit] Boss battles and endings in Zelda games are pretty predictable anyway. lol at my edit.

Re: Games that made you take a break from gaming
I can think of a few. I bought Demon's Souls for Ps3 based on the recommendations of a friend. A bunch of us got the game and I dove into it. Unfortunately the game was like diving headfirst into a kiddie pool. It was very shallow and there was nothing to retain interest. In stark contrast to everything I do, I sold the game immediately because all it offered was online gameplay and I wasn't into it.
Another time I had got so good at Reach on XBL, I was starting to become a bit of a real bastard to play against. Then all the cool kids started using aimbot and hacking. I got pissed after a few days of being shot through walls and being assassinated by people who weren't there and gave up. I stopped playing entirely and let my XBL Gold expire. I do not care to get back into either, which is sad because I really like Halo. I've moved on...

Re: Games that made you take a break from gaming
I wrote about this awhile back: I took a huge break from gaming once the fifth generation hit the market. I was crazy about the NES and SNES then, and one great thing about those old systems was their simplicity. Pop in a game, turn it on, and you're playing within five seconds. I remember trying to dive headfirst into the PlayStation and N64 library and was just left feeling disoriented. I hated the ugly blocky graphics (people say they haven't aged well, but I thought they looked terrible back in 1996), load times, disc swapping, memory cards, etc. Plus, it seemed like with the advent of the ESRB the market was getting flooded with "edgy" mature titles that didn't offer much in the way of content.
I felt alienated, like "video games" as I had known them had ceased to exist. Didn't touch a console for about five years, when I began to discover all the retro classics I had missed out on.

Re: Games that made you take a break from gaming
I've never encountered a game that made me take a break from gaming entirely, but I've met games that have caused me to stop playing certain genres for a while. Dead Space killed my interest in horror games. It's like I have a bottle inside me, and every time I play a survival horror game, a little more fluid is added. During my DS playthrough, the bottle was filled up, and it has yet to empty. COD4 and Half-Life 2 made it kinda hard for me to go back and play any but the best FPS games. They're just so good that I can't enjoy FPS games that are just decent, or ok, anymore.

Re: Games that made you take a break from gaming
A Pokemon overdose, combined with the super slow start of Phantasy Star II have soured me on RPGs for some time now. One day, some magical game will bring me out of it. I have been playing the first Dragon Warrior a little.

Re: Games that made you take a break from gaming
I have never gone without games altogether but I will say playing FFXI back in the day and WOW, LOL more recently has made me take a break from MMO style games (I hope for good, Star Wars needs to stop looking so good! lol). Im going back to console gaming only I feel like I am missing out sometimes when I dont play the games I get lol.
