I was considering doing this, as the local game store sells FC Twins, and I wanted to know what yous all thought.
Here's my current setup for Famicom/Super Famicom games:
- I have a Gyromite converter for Famicom games. I have never used it however, as I'd first have to modify it to get it to fit in my toaster NES.
- I have a NakiTek Game Saver that allows me to play Super Famicom games. This thing is ass. The games fit very loosely (and horizontally!) into the device and need to be perfectly aligned to function, it takes me an eternity to get it up and running.
I don't see myself ever being able to justify the purchase of both a Famicom and Super Famicom, so I was thinking of going the clone route. Or perhaps just getting the SupaBoy and modding the Gyromite converter. I don't see myself buying many American SNES games ever again, so I'd really like to get SF games running without too much of a headache. I really haven't explored the world of 8-bit Famicom games at all yet.

For NES, get a HoneyBee converter.
For SNES, plucking the tabs out of the console is the most practical way. I believe you stated you don't like doing that in some other thread similar to this. I think just buying a SFC is the cheapest route if you're really that against removing some plastic from your console.

Re: Using a CLONE console to play import games
I'd second bruno's idea on the SNES there or just getting an actual SFC. The downside of the FC systems (I have a regular NES one and FC twin that plays NES/SNES), is of course, compatibility. I was so bummed when I found out of all games that the FC can't play, Castlevania 3 was one of them. No idea how the other clones are, but I'd suspect compatibility can be an issue with some of them as well.

I've actually been thinking about buying a nice (non-yellow) SNES and yanking the tabs out of the crappy one I have now.
Somehow I forgot about this idea when I made the above post.

Wait a minute, you have Famicom game carts and you have not play tested them yet? No mod needed, you can swap the Gyromyte PCB with a Famicom PCB and use the NES shell. Not hard to swap PCBs if you only use a couple of the screws and leave on just snug.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I have a Gyromite converter for Famicom games. Be careful the center peg clears the Famicom PCBs.

If you don't want to yank the tabs out of your SNES, just use a Game Genie as a passthrough. That will work for anything that doesn't need the outside connectors which will be most games. No codes needed.

Re: Using a CLONE console to play import games
I really do not understand the paranoia behind not wanting to remove some non-visible tabs from inside the machine in order to increase its functionality, and then actually pondering buying an inferior clone system instead.
The ONLY other option, other than cutting the cosmetically invisible and pointless tabs, is to buy a Super Famicom. Why buy some knock off clone when you ALREADY have a legit system and could also, if you want to spend money, buy a legit Japanese system? I really do not get it.
Likewise with wanting to play Famicom games. You already have ALL the tools. If you want even more, a professionally made converter is possible, as is buying an actual Famicom (they are not really that expensive!). Don't waste money on a clone that can't even play all the games.

I have my messiah NEX and I laugh at all of you!!!!!!!1
I dont have to worry about adapters for the famicom.
I dont care that the sound is off on my clone. I'm not an audiophile.
