Comparing port differences in the PS3 and 360
Can anyone point me to a site(s) that describes the differences in ports spread across both the PS3 and 360 libraries? I've seen screenshot comparison articles, but I'm more interested in a detailed explanation of differences. Things like known omissions in certain ports, graphical differences, compression in 360 ports and so on. Again, please disregard solely the screenshot comparison sites.

I am also interested. Most comparison sites I have noticed just go by screen shots and not actual performance. Would be interested in hearing about little changes too.

They tend to cover everything, though they do post lots of screen shots too
I'd love to find some other sites too though

Nice subject!
Only way to know for sure is to try both ports, but this maybe silly if your looking for some input on a purchase. From what Ive heard most ports seem to be better on the 360 counter part. But theres probably much more to a definitive reason to which is better and why?
Was there a specific game or were you just curious across the board?

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

I've recently adopted a PS3 into my brood, so yeah, a heads up before I swipe would be ideal.TEKTORO wrote:Nice subject!

The information I've read so far seems to favor 360 ports in most respects, but on occasion a PS3 port will outshine it's 360 counterpart. The most obvious examples of poor PS3 ports are; Bayonetta (serious slowdown, tearing, texture popping), Battlefield 1943 (missing textures), Bioshock 1 & 2 (water effects, reflections, and lighting are inferior on PS3)...I'll just stop there.
I'm not trying to go out of my way to pat the 360 on the pack, and I'm not entirely sure why most 360 ports tend to rival PS3 ports. It's no secret that the 360's GPU is significantly more powerful with unified shaders, as opposed to dedicated architecture in the PS3. This in part is why the 360 generally has a better frame rate with its ports. Anti-aliasing is also much better on the 360 due to a pseudo dedicated 2nd GPU (the daughter die w/ 10MB of eDRAM) However, Sony's strong hand is it's cell processor and it's ability to reduce workload on the GPU. Naughty Dog seems to be the only developer capable of splitting vertex processing in the GPU and CPU. Evidently the Uncharted series is highly CPU intensive.
More thoughts later on...

It would also seem that games that were originally developed on PC hardware translate better to the Xbox 360 then PS3. Sonic Generations would be a good example.

Yes. I originally purchased Generations for PS3 during the GS Holiday promotion. I ended up returning it for the 360 version, and for obvious reasons. Truth be told, the PC version is no doubt the best version. If it wasn't d/l only rubbish I'd snag it.ATARI800XLfan wrote:It would also seem that games that were originally developed on PC hardware translate better to the Xbox 360 then PS3. but if you buy fighting games you want them on PS3 so you can play with noise, mj, sev, etc.
