When I was at Black Friday last night I picked up one of these Blue Wiis. There honestly wasn't a line for one. I just walked up and got a ticket at bought it. The first thing that is strange about it is it is not sealed. There is no plastic seal over the box. So I opened it up carefully and looked at. Boy Nintendo went cheap on this one. They used the same exact shell for the Wii. The only differences are they sealed the Gamecube ports on top, and they changed the lettering to be horizontal. Despite the fact that its not meant to put upright, it still has the feet on the side to be placed in a Wii stand. All you would have to do is buy the stand! I thought there would be more redesign to the case.
I'm not sure what to do with this thing. I have a white Wii. It is a cool shade of blue. Should I take it back? Try to flip immediately for ~150, or hold on it for years hoping this might be the real rare holy grail of Wiis (likely the red one will be)?

Take it back. The blue Wii is my favorite color for a Wii, but the lack of GCN compatibility is lame. And I thought it would be an actual redesign... But if it's what you said that makes it even worse. Ugh.

The same shell?? I thought the same, a new case design. I would return it, I think Gamecube compatible versions will be the most valuable years from now.
Hey Nintendo! There are Wii games that use Gamecube controllers.

If you wanna take it back, I'll totally buy it from you!
Re: Got a Blue Wii at last night, Wii Minus is pretty lame
idk what I want to do at this point. But yeah redesign wise this isn't one. Clearly its just a ploy to save money. Thats cool, but they least they could have done is redone the shell in the vein of the SNES mini, or top loader.

I don't know you'd be able to flip them for $150 - they sold a bunch online yesterday...I was debating all-day after debating some info ZE passed on to me. I was surprised how long they were "available online" before they finally weren't.
Then my sister called from Wal-Mart to report they were being made available, and even in store they were not flying. She was able to call back 30 mins later and make sure I didn't want it.
Part of this is the pieces you mentioned - lack of redesign, no GCN compatibility, part is the other Wii bundles out there right now. Best Buy had a Black Wii w/New Super Mario Bros for $99, that's basically a new wii for $65.
My advice would be to either take it right back, put it up on racket for what you paid plus shipping, or hold it for a couple years and see if there is a collectors market developing for it.

No, the very least these corporate assholes at Nintendo could've done is pass the savings onto the consumer with such a lackluster redesign and subtraction of features. Fuck Nintendo :/

Wait! This Blue Wii doesn't contain a pack-in game like the Black Wii minus??? Does anyone know if the Wii-minus can be softmodded?
