The earliest I remember is playing Diddy Kong Racing on the n64 at target. I can't think back much further than that. How about YOU?

wow, you're young!

My earliest memory is On the NES. Didnt get to play it at the store, but I remember seeing all the colorful and varied boxes (Behind the glass shelves) at my local Woolworth way back in the day.

The earliest system I got to get my hands on was SNES at K*B Toys. I would play Super Mario world, Zelda, and Ranma 1/2.

I guess its just the generation gap.

I'm sure that some of us here may have been weaned on Atari 2600

*raises hand*

No idea what game it was though. Probably Combat, Asteroids, or Space Invaders. The first store demo machine I drooled over was a Vectrex. I think I saw that at a Montgomery Ward.

At the stores? Probably an NES, maybe Super Mario Bros. I'm honestly not sure. First memory I have of playing any game would be the Donkey Kong arcade, sitting on a stool at a sub shop.

The first one I can vividly recall is Sonic 1 on the Genesis at Service Merchandise however I am certainly old enough to have played some NES and late Atari kiosks but I just don't recall the what and where.

The best memory I have of playing a game at the store was Mario64. The newly built local Wal-Mart had a N64 kiosk setup several weeks before the release of the system. I would get up early on Sunday morning to go grocery shopping with my parents. I'd spend the entire time in the electronics section playing Mario64. Being that it was early Sunday morning, I had the thing all to myself. It was glorious!

I remember playing NHL Hockey on the Sega Genesis at a local store called "Video Game Network." It was there that I fell in love with the Genny and then persuaded my parents to buy me one (at Kay-Bee Toys about a month later). :D

Donkey Kong Country 1 when it first came out, but it wasn't at a store so much, I actually went to the Nintendo headquarters in Richmond, BC to get some replacement parts for a NES. They just had the DKC kiosk set up in their lobby.

I'm sure I played NES, SNES, Game Boy, or Genesis game displays early in my experience as a gamer. Toys-R-Us was like a fantasy land for me.
However, the first game I have a solid memory of playing is Panzer Dragoon. I had no idea what was going on and spent a large portion of it facing backwards, but it was so different than anything else I had played before. NiGHTS into Dreams was a similarly amazing experience of playing a game in a store.
