Looks like the Wii Minus console has made it to the U.S.

Post by CD AGES »

I wonder if this will cause any confusion over the holidays for people who want a Wii with GCN compatability? lol!

I hope consumers are educated enough to know not to buy this.

What's your source for this?

I still don't get how GC removal saves much. Most of the hardware was just slowed down a little to play gc games. I guess they could remove the memory card and controller slots.

major big box retailers no longer sell gamecube games.

so this does not make a difference to parents buying a console for their little kids.

Gamecube games are 6+ years old now, and the normal 'average kid player' is not actively searching for cube games. They only get what their parents buy for them.

There is going to be a sticker/label on the box saying that it's not compatible with gamecube games. Sony did this with the newer PS3's that said that they weren't compatible with PS2 stuff.

The wii was orginally marketed as a 'casual console'. Now it definitely is. We all own original wii's already. So why make them with reverse compatibility? They still want to get anyone that still hasn't bought a nintendo console.

I hope so too. But it may be difficult for people who are buying it for a family or loved one and not for themselves. I'm so glad i bought mine last year for 150!

I'm sure it does in very "tiny" letters on the box somewhere lol! the thing may as well say. "HEY THIS DOESN'T SUPPORT GAMECUBE ANYMORE, BUT Wii STILL CHARGE YOU LIKE IF IT WOULD CUZ THAT"S HOW WE ROLL!"

Thanks vlame for the info :)

I agree. They could have at least dropped the price for such subtractions :/

Just came from a bestbuy and they don't have single old Wii Model of any sort! did they ran out of old stock or perhaps nintendo recalled the old models???

You may have a point but just feels wrong to me, especially without a price drop of any sort. And now there is gonna be major contradiction for Wii software that indicates to be GCN controller compatible... Nintendo Sucks!
