Overlooked DLC

Post by jfe2 »

I recently was browsing through my XBLA games and noticed that Castle Crashers recently had a free DLC character and a new pay DLC character pack released for it. I hadn't heard anything about this, and I love that game.

That being said, I wanted to make this topic so that we could share DLC that with each other. Post stuff that you think others may have missed out on, no matter how obvious you may have thought it was. I know that some of you here hate DLC, but I personally don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks to play a new chapter in a game I enjoyed.

Yeah, that's the noble notion and it has been implemented very well in some instances, like the GTA IV DLC, which essentially added new games and charms to the franchises, but I find the practice is corroded repeatedly by hack-publishers releasing half-games or have us pay for what we were getting free for many years.

I've constantly cited this as an example, but I was playing Marvel vs Capcom 2 a lot this year, unlocking the gargantuate amount there is to unlock in it, and it occured to me, that I'd be shilling such a ridiculous amount of money for the same content in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

It's not like there's an obligation to buy it, obviously. I just find the practice unnecessarily compromises player-publisher goodwill for what must be little financial rewards. Only a slight portion of the core are going to invest in it, essentially a minority of a minority.

I ruined the initially positive sentiment again, sorry. If it's any consolation, you don't have to share a dinner table with me.

DLC will never live that down.

I find most of the DLC worth getting is pretty heavily publicized unless the game itself has been overlooked.. and if a game has been largely overlooked there won't generally be much DLC for it.

Wipeout Pure for the PSP had a lot of free DLC, new crafts, circuits, skins, music from past games, etc. The official site (in which you had to download it, then put it on your memory stick) no longer seems to have valid download links, but it can be found around the net (just make sure you get the dlc for your region).

Yeah that was a problem with Killzone: Liberation on the PSP as well. The DLC was made available again after they took it down, but it was a pain in the ass to find and install.

I'm a sucker for skins and stuff like what you are describing for Wipeout Pure. I won't pay an arm and a leg for that stuff, but I do think it can be cool.

The circuits in Wipeout Pure actually adds a lot of gameplay, there are new trophies (not PSN) to win in the game, adding more time playing.

Everyone got it for free, but it's worth mentioning that the new coop course in Portal 2 is really fun. And the ending is priceless.

Also, Borderlands DLC.

Eh, I don't know if any of this isn't already know but...

Brutal Legend has DLC that includes a GPS to help with finding the collectibles. I think it includes new upgrades too

For people who've played Tomb Raider Underworld on the PS 3, there's exclusive DLC on the 360 that let's you use a different character

Valkyria Chronicles has a ton of QUALITY DLC. More story, more weapons, more challenge and a new playable character. It's good stuff, one of the best examples of DLC I can think of

As far Castle Crashers, I love that game, but I hate that the DLC is just more character clones and weak new weapons that add little to the game other than the "cosmetic" bonuses.
