Classic Games That You Didn't Like?
So what are some of those well-known, popular "classic games" that you personally did not care for?
When I say "Classic Games," I'm thinking anything before the year 2000.
My List:
Pac-Man (Any version) - I dunno. It just never did anything for me. I always thought the game would have been much better if the ghosts weren't able to respawn. Had you been able to eat them and then they'd be cleared off the board for the remainder of that level... then I may have found the game a lot more interesting.
Donkey Kong (Arcade/NES) - So lemme get this straight... there's only 4 levels (3 on the NES), and when you beat the game it just repeats itself over and over?? Even if the game gets faster and more difficult each time you complete it, I could never get past the idea of continually playing the same levels and rescuing the same woman repeatedly until I die. If someone were simply playing for score then I could certainly understand that, but myself... if I beat it once then I'm done with it - there's nothing else left to see or do as far as I'm concerned.
Dragon's Lair (Arcade/Multimedia) - I always appreciated its originality. But having little to no actual control of the FMV character on-screen annoyed the piss out of me. Couldn't get into it no matter how hard I tried.
Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior (Arcade/SNES) - I always felt this game was too slow and kinda boring. The series got a lot better as they got faster (and added more characters), imho.

That game would be seriously piss easy if the ghosts couldn't respawn.

Chalk it up to being a very early platformer, one of the first even. It laid the foundations for a lot of things to come.
Anyhow, have you played the gameboy remake? They heavily expanded on the basic gameplay, added an extra 90-something levels, and pretty much turned it into a puzzle platformer.

I disagree with yr entire list.
Pac-Man -- I suck at it. But I find it fun.
Donkey Kong -- I mostly suck at it, but it's super fun.
Dragon's Lair -- super impressive and fun and interesting.
Street Fighter II -- one of the best fighting games EVER.

No. I've actually never owned a Game Boy. But I do have a Game Boy Player on my want list for the Gamecube. So maybe I'll throw this version of Donkey Kong on the list of GB games to keep an eye out forAppleQueso wrote:Weekend_Warrior wrote:Donkey Kong (Arcade/NES) - So lemme get this straight... there's only 4 levels (3 on the NES), and when you beat the game it just repeats itself over and over?? It's very very good, and pretty damn cheap too. Its rather overlooked, which is a huge shame if you ask me.

I'm going to catch a lot of flak for this, but...EarthBound.
Before I say why, I will preface this opinion - I LIKED the game's quirkiness and dialog, but the battle system made the game uninteresting to me--it reminds me too much of RPG Maker and I don't like not being able to see my characters in battle.

Who else didn't like Toejam and Earl?
Granted, I didn't spend a whole lot of time with it since I was playing Shining Force and Altered Beast along with it at the time, but I just didn't find it very appealing at all.

I find it boring and overrated. I don't dislike it... just, I find it boring overall. I'd also rather play Shining Force, although I'm not sure I'd choose Altered Beast over Tj&E.
Likewise with Earthbound. I just... never could get into it. I love some RPGs a lot, but EB just did not hold my interest. I have tried playing through it numerous times, and have always stopped out of boredom. I can actually see how it would be appealing for many. I am just not one of them.
