What I mean by retro-type is... well, retroish games. Sidescrollers, fighters, arcadey games, etc. I kinda want to invest in getting one, just to have a current gen console that I can play the small handful of current-gen games that interest me (i.e. not generic FPS's featuring the colors grey and dark grey), and the seemingly abundant supply of retro PSN craziness.
Could any PS3 owners clue me in on their experience with the console, and maybe suggest a few games? I don't like the way most games are being distributed nowadays, since it seems that most companies are caring way more about making money than they care about making games, but there's hope. Konami is just about the only company I still appreciate. Capcom is teetering on the edge of a pit full of maggot infested man-eating bull hogs, but I think they remembered to bring a rope.
Is the PS3 a liable source of retro-type games?
Re: Is the PS3 a liable source of retro-type games?
There are some good retro-type games on PS3, but most of them are on PSN. I personally enjoy Street Fighter II HD Remix, Pac-Man championship DX, Castle Crashers, Joe Danger, and the Pixeljunk games. If you are looking for a "retro" modern console, then look no further than the Wii.

That game is uglier than rocket science with a hangover.swiftzx wrote:I personally enjoy Street Fighter II HD Remixi

Well, that pretty much answers my question right there. I'll probably side with getting a 3DS, assuming the same type of thing happens to that. Although now, it doesn't look so faithful, A promising line-up of games should be released soon.swiftzx wrote:There are some good retro-type games on PS3, but most of them are on PSN. Id vote the 360 first for retro including downloads. Then the wii. PS3 is a distant third. very distant.

Oh, you mean just like how it's always been?scarper wrote:since it seems that most companies are caring way more about making money than they care about making games
And yeah, PS3 has a few good titles of that kind out there. Since surprisingly no ones mentioned it yet, 3D Dot Game Heroes is basically The Legend of Zelda in HD graphics. Also, Demon's Souls has some very old-school style game design when it comes to difficulty and stuff. It's sort of similar to Castlevania in that regard (To help put it in more context).
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Can't answer the inquiry, but I do believe you mean viable.

You'd vote for 360 over the Wii for retro? But the Wii has the Virtual Consoles and the classic controller.ZenErik wrote:Id vote the 360 first for retro including downloads. Then the wii. PS3 is a distant third. very distant.

Exactly. If we're talking the entire generation, Wii would be 100% the most retro, then PS3 (as there are now TG16 games) and then 360.BurningDoom wrote:You'd vote for 360 over the Wii for retro?
