N64 PSU repair

I have the proper driver (not just a bit) to get into them but are there best practices to fix them aside from "recap" or "replace the PSU"? Is it just as simple as a recap?

How do I get the actual PCB out of the case it's stuck?

Main reason I ask is some day the supply of OEM PSU's will dry up and I refuse to use Retrobit products as the;yre at the least non-functional and possibly dangerous to my hardware.

So you didn't open it up yet? You weren't very clear. If you did open it, how did the caps look? If you're unsure, take a clear pic of the top of the caps and post it here.

A way more common thing that went wrong with it is the wire getting internal breaks. You can test this easily if you have a multi meter. The N64 power adapter, haven been designed the way it is, would be really easy to fix if this is the problem. You would just have to open the brick up, desolder the wire, then solder a new one in. You can use an extension cord for the replacement.

No no no it's fine, but when the caps do bulge I wanted to know how to get the thing apart because I removed the 4 screws and somethings binding and keeping the cases from separating.

Off-topic: Ziggy, Are you still doing Star Fox 2 repros?

 Oh I see.

I haven't had a good detective tech help thread in a while now. :( Quick, some body have something break in a very rare and obscure way! You must be determined to fix it.

After you take the screws out, you gotta shove a small flat head screwdriver or a knife in the seem and crack it open. It takes a little bit of effort. But if it's not broke, I wouldn't open it.

Yup, I still make SNES carts here and there.
