I just recently noticed how many games have been made to copy the gameplay and even setting of the Professor Layton series of games. I do kind of find it comforting that for once, a fresh, new, and interesting game is actually being copied (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all), but many of these attempts are pretty shameless in their execution. Sure, there are a couple gems like Puzzle Agent that have managed to stay original, but most look like a cheap imitation of an excellent game. Let's take a look at the current lineup:

Apparently, the Doctor Who tie-in DS game is also guilty of this. It's actually listed as one of its best features, oddly.

I don't have a DS, so I'm glad Puzzle Agent is out there. It's the only Professor Layton style game I've played. The others in the list are all unfamiliar to me, but they are all DS games, so that makes sense. I'm surprised more PC game companies aren't ripping off Layton's formula. It seems well suited for a point & click platform.
