Best Turbo Controller for NES

Post by Gnashvar »

I need a turbo controller for my NES. Do you guys have any suggestions? I was thinking of getting a Max but if I remember correctly the D-Pad is hard to use.
Thanks everyone...

Not sure if it's the best option for what you're looking for, but I always loved my Four Score -- four-player adapter with toggle turbo.

There's a style that a few different NES controllers have that I'd like to get. It's kinda like a TG controller. It has A and B, then turbo A and B on top of that. Kinda nice, instead of having to turn turbo on and off. But unlike the Max, they come in regular NES shape. If you search "turbo nes controller" on eBay you'll always find a few examples.

There's always this generic one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-Pair-Ninten ... 35b2eab478

This one is cool cause it looks like a Famicom controller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NES-Nintendo-Tu ... 19c74cf7e4

Though I would pass on that one because the wire is coming out the side instead of the top of the controller.

It's hit or miss. There's a ton of third party controllers out there. If you search eBay one day, then a few days later, you'll get much different controllers (with the exception of the Max).

The NES Max has a faster turbo than the Advantage. its not that hard to use, but it will feel weird at first. You either press the black circle, or use the slider. If using the slider you have to think of it as a d-pad, if you don't concentrate at first you'll slip into the mold of trying to use it as an analog stick, and it won't be responsive.

The NES Advantage is probably the best one all around though.

A while back I bought a generic one but the dpad was very stiff, it was no fun playing with that. I do like that NES like pad with the turbo any luck with that?

The best choice is the Four Score. Made by ASCIIware, it allows you to enable turbo to any controller including the default ones and ones that have turbo. You can stack the turbo. Get a Four Score. They're usually fairly cheap on ebay.

I'm still a fan of the NES Advantage.
