I used Brasso to clean my Gameboy Screen, and it's scratched
So I read Brasso cleans Gameboy screens, I buffed it with it and now tiny little circles are in my Gameboy's screen, what do I do?

just a shot in the dark but there is a product made to remove swirl marks in auto paint finishes you can get at your auto parts store. Also company called novus that makes a product to remove scratches from non laminated plastics. I do not know if either of these will make it better or worse. Worth a shot though.AmericanMuffin wrote:So I read Brasso cleans Gameboy screens, I buffed it with it and now tiny little circles are in my Gameboy's screen, what do I do?

See, that's the thing about Brasso. The clue is in the name really.

It's an abrasive; it's like those disc-doctors that just strip a layer of plastic off so your CD/DVD looks scratch free (and a little thinner).AmericanMuffin wrote:So I read Brasso cleans Gameboy screens, I buffed it with it and now tiny little circles are in my Gameboy's screen, what do I do?
Some alternatives include buying a new screen (which should run only a few dollars) or keep on rubbing the Brasso with a sponge until you get an even wipe.

As a last resort you could try wet sanding with high grit sandpaper (start at about 1000 and work your way up to 2000). Even then you would have to be very even and it would take quite a while to achieve. Probably cheaper to just get the replacement screen above.

I got a replacement screen and it was scratched when I got it, that's why I used Brasso.Niode wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/store/newly-ad ... creen.html

Try "Displex" display polish. I think I got it from Seidio or Boxwave. Works great on all plastic screens.

But isn't Displex (and Brasso, and even Turtle Wax) another abrasive?Anapan wrote:Try "Displex" display polish. I think I got it from Seidio or Boxwave. Works great on all plastic screens.
As an Amazon reviewer writes:
I could certainly live with a groove (a fifteen minute rub of Turtle Wax essentially concaved the screen on one of my GameBoys), but if you can't, buy a replacement screen (or two) and then some plastic laminate or screen protector you can put over that.Fact is, this product doesn't remove scratches, so to speak. It merely smooths out the surface the scratch is on. My scratch grew into more of a groove than anything else (something I could live with) but it's still more than visible with the naked eye. I'm not going to say it made it worse, but it didn't make it any better.

Re: I used Brasso to clean my Gameboy Screen, and it's scratched
Depends on the scratch. It would remove the bad stuff that brasso did. Brasso is made for hard metal, this stuff is made for plastic. With enough work (GB screens are pretty thick) it can get rid of heavy scratches and make the display show the picture cleanly again. Gouges are another thing.
I tried to polish out a gouge on a GBC screen and after 5 minutes it still wasn't satisfactory. All the other wear was completely removed after only a minute of polishing however, so I still stand behind the product. I simply bought a new case and screen from DX. It was super cheap, and the screen came with protective material on both sides. It still looks just like a brand new gameboy, so it was money well spent even if it's no longer authentic.

Then you should have queried the seller and got a screen without a scratch instead of making the problem worse.AmericanMuffin wrote:I got a replacement screen and it was scratched when I got it, that's why I used Brasso.Niode wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/store/newly-ad ... creen.html
