Is there an application which displays current resolution?

I have a NECXM29 Plus multisync monitor. This isn't a computer monitor so when an emulator or video game system is changing the resolution I can't tell what resolution it is switching to. There isn't a menu in the monitor which displays the resolution. Only the refresh rate. If I alt tab out of the emulator or the emulator looses focus the resolution will switch back to the Windows resolution setting of 640x480. I have been trying to find an application which will just display the resolution on the screen somewhere whenever an application changes it. Does anyone know of a simple utility that does this?

This would be a roundabout way, but run a screenshot tool like Purrint and then check the dimensions of the saved files after. Just set it up to autosave them. Purrint is free, tiny, and awesome for anyone who needs a screenshot tool.

Actually, thinking about it. the game should be specifying what resolution it runs in. I've seen versions of mame that tell you. KLOV usually lists the resolution games run in too.

Not sure about Windows 7, but Windows XP has an option to put a Display Icon on the task bar. It is a checkbox when you open up Display in the Control Panel. Your video card driver might also do the same. Simply click the icon to view the current resolution setting.

He needs to know while in the emulator so that doesn't help.

Thanks Hobie-wan! I spaced on the screen cap method. I did a print screen and paste into MS-Paint. Then I would save it and then just look at the properties of the file to see the resolution. Found out it wasn't displaying in the correct resolution. So I figured out how to add modelines to Soft-15khz and now I'm playing in native resolution with bsnes using SSNES.
