Fixing headphones?

I have a pretty expensive pair of headphones that have been broken sometime now but haven't thrown them away since I always thought someday I might be able to salvage them. Well the problem is that the headphones get no audio unless I bend the cord a certain way and even then its shoddy. The cord is attached to the headphones so I can just go out and buy another cord. Are these worthless now and should be thrown away or can they be salvaged?

I'm not sure if I read the post wrong, but here's my analysis:

Headphones or earbuds?

Cord is permanently attached to the headphones? Earbuds?
Cord is a breakaway cable?

Breakway cables are easy to replace, but if the cord is affix permanently, it depends on how easily you can access the cord terminals on the headphone body. From the sound of it, the cord is frayed/broken, possibly due to you winding the cord around the body of the headphones.

If you cannot access the terminals, scrap the headphones, splicing the wires would ruin the sound quality, and they wouldn't be anywhere comparable to what you had before. If you are okay with a degraded sound quality, cut the wires and attempt to splice it.

Is it bending somewhere in the middle of the cable, or wiggling it near where it enters the headphones? If somewhere in the middle, would need a new cable to fix. If near the headphones, might have pulled a solder joint inside. So then the question is whether you can get into them and can re-solder or attach a new cord. If they were expensive, it is worth giving them a go. As long as re-soldering is done properly and/or a total cheapo cord* from a dollar store isn't used they can probably be fixed and be good as new.

*cheapo cord from monoprice should be fine.

If they're good headphones, they're definitely worth fixing. Replacing the chord should be a simple fix. Post pics of what you've got, we'll be able to make suggestions easier.

They're not THAT expensive like bose or beats but roughly about ~$50-60 when I got them, so I would like to at least attempt to fix them. I'm trying to check the solder points after I took off the cushioning but can't get to them as shown in picture one. I think it might be glued on? Also I guess it wouldn't be headphones or ear buds but rather a head set .

Why is there two plugs, is there also a mic?

A complete new cord should be only a couple of bucks, be careful of tearing that cushioning to get to the solder joints. You could add a heavier duty ¼ Stereo plug cable and use an adaptor for ⅛ stereo jacks.

Had sometime today to finally break open these headphones. Heres the pictures of the headphones once I opened them. Not sure if I caused this damage ripping them open or if they were already like that.
