I assume you mean for emulation?
I use a PS2 style one for more emulation. N64 can be problematic sometime as the button and direction layout is so much different.

I use the Logitec wireless one -- not sure if it's Mac friendly or not...

The XB360 one is Mac compatible, but the D-pad sucks. Most USB gamepads that are HID compatible should work.
