Help! Getting really tired tinkering with oxbox....

Post by itsmattxp »

I have a softmodded OXbox with EVO dash (Not sure what version) and for the most part it was working well until yesterday. I recently tried to put some new movies into the box but they were mkv so I used mkv2vob (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/mkv2vob) to convert it to mpg. This is when the problem occurred. After I finished FTPing the files over, all my programs, applications, emulators disappeared from the xbox's menu but are still there when I check through FTP. It's happen before where I transferred a movie over and a lot of my movies disappeared or stop working. By "stop working" I mean that it shows up, I click, and nothing happens. I always think it's either because the movie file I added doesn't work with the xbox but I don't know why it causes problems for the other movies. Also, does it have anything to do with the amount of space left on the HDD? Is there anyway to check how much space is left on the xbox? The EVO dash start up screen does have a part where it tells you how much space is left on my F drive but it never changes whenever I add/remove something. Anyone know whats going on with my xbox or how to check how much space is left on the HDD?

Well I first deleted the files that I had ftped over to the xbox today since in the past that would somehow revert my xbox back to normal. However, this time nothing happened except the files are deleted. Now theres nothing on the xbox but the evo dash that works but I can't even tell how much space on my HDD now. I'll try undoing the softmod but I did this so long ago that I don't even remember how to. =/

I'll try this tomorrow. I've been procrastinating on the xbox ever since it broke down since my memories of the system were practically me sitting on an ancient laptop trying to get everything to work. Thanks for the advice so far!

if you erase or wipe it, try to keep the linux save and softmod installer on it so you can redo it.

i offer assistance via skype or msn live.

Okay, I finally got the motivation again to try and fix this thing. I think I just want to go the approach where I completely delete everything off my 500gb HDD and reinstall everything. Is there a link to a guide that might be of some use? I did a quick google search and followed that guide but it didn't do anything.
