Have you been blown away by "outdated" elements of games?

Have you been blown away by "outdated" elements of games?

Post by Erik_Twice »

Because I have and I know other people have too.

For example, the Megaman II intro gets me pumped. It's primitive but man, the timing is great! And it's not nostalgia, I never played Megaman back in the day.

Any similar experiences?

My friends think I'm weird because I'm still impressed by N64 Graphics.

A few years ago I played through Unreal for the first time and was amazed at the single player experience I had missed(I had only ever bothered with the multiplayer). Even if it was done up as levels, it felt like a full blown world. They just don't make them like they used to.

Honestly, I still tend to be impressed by graphics when I know that it's doing things that are beyond what a system is designed for, even if the system is rather old. For instance, I was blown away by how nice Shubibinman 3 for the PCE looked, particularly since it was a system 2.0 card game. Of course, I was a quite disappointed when the game ended a half hour later, but damn, it looked nice for that half hour.

I am often impressed by game's graphics and some times the enemy intelligence. If it was a technical struggle to do something on a system, regardless of how easy it might be to do now, I am impressed.

I really like the intro to low g man. It has a great B movie feel.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Over the last year I've been trying out as many shmups as possible, since it was a new thing to me.

Graphically, musically, and gameplay-wise, a lot of them blew me away. I think either Blazing Lazers or Lords if Thunder was the biggest shocker though

Yo, General_Norris, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but I just gotta say that Mega Man III had one of the best intros of all time.
