I don't get all the hate for Kotaku. I read them daily, and find Luke Plunkett's Total Recall feature to be a highlight of the site several times a week. I would guess most people here would like it, too:

Lots of good stuff.

Kotaku is part of Gawker. Gawker, along with it's sites (such as kotaku) stir up fake controversy to generate page views(sometimes it isn't even related to the content of the site, which is japanese culture and video games). When someone comments about this in the comment section of the article, they get banned for disagreeing a tiny bit with the author. The comment system is so that the members that kiss ass have their comments seen, while those that don't, don't get seen.

Yeah, Total Recall is great. I can understand why people dislike Kotaku because they frequently try to spin stories to be more controversial and they do a lot of innocuous stuff, but there is some gold in that blog too. I'm not sure I'll be able to watch tonight, but this Retro Game Master show sounds really cool. It's a big hit in Japan and I'm glad Kotaku has decided to bring it to the US.

I guess since I never look at the comments I don't really care about all that. As for sensationalism, that's par for the course with any and all news media.

I think it is funny you call Kotaku a part of news media.

I like kotaku. I don't remember to read it regularly, though. I like a lot of stuff people think is shit though. So who knows.

They are news media just as much as something like ESPN or E! is. All are entertainment news media, but still news media in that they report news.
